Thats way better than what it is currently, Id say either they should use this or bring back what the current UI has
I mean moreso like adding the features from the beta into studio itself, eventually fully converting it. This would give people time to adjust and would probably help it be viewed more favorably
Well… If you aren’t in the studio beta then yeah once that’s out of beta you’ll be hit like a rock cause then at that point it’s functional and they’ve got the everything from the current studio recreated into the new studio (with the exception of Core Plugins). The Core Plugins such as Terrain Editor, Asset Manager, Toolbox, Properties, Etc will all most likely be released as individual beta features until they’ve sorted out all the bugs and issues before they get released into live studio.
Trying this out now…
Glad that the “Play” button no longer has that tiny arrow in the corner that you can easily misclick.
But this threw me off for a second. This has been “Play” for the last ~10 years. Totally not used to this suddenly saying “Test”, but I guess I can get used to it.
Tooltips are still buggy! Sometimes they won’t go away and will overlay other applications. I assume this is being worked on.
Also, sometimes they produce errors:
In “Manage Tabs”, when you click “Remove tab” or “Reset all tabs”, the confirmation dialog appears underneath “Manage Tabs”.
I don’t know if this is a bug with some of my plugins, but it appears that sometimes they will create an extra, blank toolbar, and this results in extra whitespace under the “Plugins” tab. This never happened with the old Studio layout.
This is probably more of an improvement than a bug, but with the old Studio layout, the only way to have a
&
symbol in a plugin toolbar button description was to type&&
, otherwise it wouldn’t render at all. I don’t know if this was just a weird bug or what.
With Next Gen Studio, it actually renders correctly… resulting in two
&
symbols!
Plugin toolbar button names also don’t wrap around to the 2nd line anymore. Kinda wish there was a way to determine if a user had Next Gen Studio enabled or not so I could determine the best way to render plugin toolbar buttons for the user.
This might sound silly, but one big problem I have with Next Gen Studio is with the “Collaborate” button. I had this problem when the beta first released and I see that it still hasn’t changed, so I’ll mention this now.
This giant, glaring white button that constantly grabs my attention. It’s the only thing with a solid white background, so it’s incredibly easy to notice, and it feels out of place.
I almost never use the Collaborate button to begin with, and in the previous UI it’s easy for me to forget that it even exists because it actually blends in with the rest of the stuff up there. But now I can’t escape it.
Could it be made less distracting? Thanks.
I appreciate the team acknowledging the spacing concerns, but with the recent trend of Roblox pushing larger UI on us, such as the explorer beta, I am worried this may only be partially addressed by release.
For example, the plugins tab is consuming an absurd amount of horizontal space. Moon Animator, for example, uses ~180px in the current UI but about 350px in the new UI. This is nearly twice the used space despite actually having smaller images as well as the text cutting off since it somehow doesn’t have enough room. I can’t even fit all my plugins on one screen anymore while only using 3/4ths of it before.
Aside from the sizing, I like the direction the UI is headed and I am grateful for those working hard to make this happen, but with such a major feature being this worse off so far into production, I worry it’s partially intentional.
My only request is in the case these issues are not properly addressed by the time of release, please ensure we still have proper access to the old UI, even if we must enable “Legacy Studio Interface” through beta features, until we, the developers are happy with the changes.
For people that are angry cuz of the size of the topbar, meshpaul released a concept of a more compact version of the UI.
You’re absolutely right. For some reason, there still isn’t a button to collapse the top bar, which takes up 1/8th of my screen. This makes it unusable when making UIs and Scripts.
You can double click the topbar buttons “Home, Model, Avatar, etc” and it’ll do the collapsing stuff. I’m not sure why they haven’t added back a button.
That’s a lot of replies in seven hours!
I just hope it’s good and practical.
I have no kind words to say on this that would not be expletives. Now I regret having auto beta features enabled.
it aint worth the blood pressure and stress of hating everything new dude
Wow this looks really good. Some of the text and button align feels a bit off though and the play button is quite small.
Even smaller?!?
Edit: Now I see that the buttons aren’t actually that small, the top bar is just huge.
You should add the Play/Stop button and Game Settings button in Home’s toolbar
i like the old one better, that’s what i was used to
Overall I like it.
The main thing I miss is the ‘Import 3D’ button.
Please add this back in the menu.
There’s room left under the avatar tab. I think it would fit nicely there next to the avatar setup.
womp womp broski, why not go all out and install Windows Vista while you’re at it?
This is not just a “design” thing, outdated, unorganized framework is getting removed, a new framework will give engineers an easier job to work with and maintain.
After this operation, an error will occur when the material button is clicked.
The new version doesn’t have the function to adjust the display constraint size. I don’t know what this function is called and can’t find it.
And this name is particularly long and much wider than other things. I think he can customize the name.
Hmm, going inside a script doesn’t automatically switch to the script tab
And I think there should be icons in the menu items for better clarity, like it did in the old ribbon
The only issues i have is that the UI takes way more space than the normal old UI. And the Ribbon top bar feels completely different in a bad way than the old one. The old one is much more responsive and just works. This one is slow and sometimes disappears casually when i’m using it.
If this issues get adressed i feel like this UI is superior, tho there needs to be a change.
This would be amazing, I hate seeing wasted space on the top bar
