Provided we have the ability to remove all of the default tabs entirely and create our own, I’m very happy with this feature. Customisation is such a huge ease of use feature as it greatly reduces the barrier of users of multiple different UI layouts, or those who simply want to have a layout more closely resembling the current UI.
And speaking of the old UI, could you provide some prefab custom tabs that replicate the existing UI tab layout to ease the transition for those less comfortable with the layout change? Or better yet, allow users to save and share their studio layouts to not only use it on different devices with ease, but to share layouts with fellow developers and friends.
I’d also very much like if the studio layout is actually saved to our accounts, as it is extremely painful having to recreate my layout time and again when updates reset it or I make major changes to my device or change device entirely.
I am glad that the spacing concerns are still being considered, however the main issue with the new UI is that tabs have the same width regardless of the text inside them (thus the visual spacing between tabs is inconsistent, and makes it very hard for people with poor hand-eye co-ordination to use studio) and this should be fixed before release.
Why not give users the option of which one they have? Unless there are strong visual indicators that the edge of the scrolling frame is not the edge and has more items further along then I do not want such a feature.
…what colour? its basically monochrome; studio lost its colour years ago with the previous ui icon overhaul. I’d very much like to see a return of colour to Roblox, the entire system is so dull and greyscale nowdays.
No… call them dropdowns. don’t make things more confusing than they need to be as that’s just not very accessible and needlessly confusing to new and existing users of the platform. Programming languages themselves already have enough stupid variations of terms and methods, we don’t need yet another layer of proprietary naming ontop… please drop the “SplitButton” name.
Drag and drop should be a key requirement before the June release, that’s such a vital ease of use feature that it should not be released without it. Drag and drop is much more intuitive and much faster to do, and it will greatly improve the transition from the current UI to the new UI.
I started learning blender when 2.8 was in beta, was taking a crappy udemy course to learn character modeling. I remember initially being VERY hostile to 2.8’s ui, and now years later I cannot fathom using blender 2.79’s ui.
Right now we are converting the Start Page over to the UI component library and that should be live in the next couple of months. Then we’ll start that process with “Ribbon” — it’s a slow haul because we have to build the components as we go.
It’s possible we have something shareable late this year but it just depends on progress and priorities. We also want to greatly improve plugin capabilities and workflows so it may get folded in with that but I don’t have an ETA there.
Just right click on any tab and hide or duplicate. You can also do this via the “Manage Tabs” UI. All possible today. We have thought about re-building the old tabs and offering them as optional. Just a matter of bandwidth and priority.
Layouts are a part of the docking system which we haven’t changed in this project. But we do have plans to revisit docking eventually and selectable layouts is definitely on the list.
There’s a minimum tab size but the width is variable. Am I misunderstanding the comment here?
There has been very clear and consistent feedback around scrolling. Yours is the lone vote for overflow menu. This will not be the same scrolling as the old UI with the left/right buttons.
Well yes there’s MANY inconsistent shades of gray that need to be addressed. We ditched the fully monochrome icons but we did bring back color with a logical grouping.
But they aren’t just drop downs. When you select an option in the dropdown it also sets the top level behavior of the button.
Nobody disagrees on this. There’s just realities of time and priority constraints.
1 out of 7 things in this list has been explicitly stated that it will be taken care of before leaving beta.
Will the rest of the known issues written here also be taken care of before leaving beta?
That will probably not happen as its also a rework of the backend for the ui, it changes the architecture of studio entirely so I don’t think they can just make it toggelable
I don’t fully understand. Do you not move your mouse to click the arrow? In my opinion the new undocking behavior is more efficient: ribbon hides you move to select a tab, ribbon appears. No need to toggle. But maybe I’m missing something.
Yeah, I was afraid that something like that would happen.
Honestly, I feel like they are just upgrading every single thing that does not need any changes. I’m used to the iconic studio layout and I just feel sad that they are taking this away from us.
It definitely needed some changes, first of all its way more user friendly and easier for new users on the platform. Second of all, its like more than 10 years old, meaning its hard to work with for the people that work at that section.
I completely agree that they should be optional, perhaps a temporary tab with a different colour stating “↓ old ui tabs” (a download icon not a down arrow)?
The minimum width should either be configurable, or just removed, its extremely confusing. The width should match the text within it, not more, not less. Its extremely inaccessible for those with poor hand-eye coordination as the spacing between the text of each tab is inconsistent due to that minimum width, thus the space between the start and end of text of neighbouring tabs is not consistent.
That’s great to hear!
Can you please explain what you mean? This sounds like the behaviour of html dropdowns to me and thus exactly what I’d expect when I read “dropdown”
While I absolutely agree, you should not stick to the deadline if you are unable to fit in such a feature in my opinion. A completely new system to replace an old one should have a very high standard of polish on release out of beta, otherwise you just let down users and create more friction for transitioning users (especially when it would speed up users creating a new layout with the new UI which by nature is necessary for them to do).
I also completely agree with this, the ribbon should be collapsable (if it is not already) in order to match the existing functionality of the system it will replace.
Whats the progress on getting Roblox rendered text to not be a blurry mess on high-DPI monitors, or giving it subpixel rendering.
I brought this up with the explorer so I was hoping to get some progress on it, if any.
Back to the main topic at hand, can it be possible for plugins to request their own tabs, and can we get some more control options other than a button for them.
