Notice about RDC 2020

I hope rdc is made as a 200 player roblox server with lots of fun social experience interactivity , with the conference rooms being their own servers that use upcoming video system to display everyone’s presentations! That would be fun

It’s a shame, I really wanted to come this year. I guess Roblox had no choice but to cancel it in these uncertain times. Announcing it early enough, before people started buying their flight tickets, was a wise decision.

Hopefully RDC will happen next year, it would be great to see it return to Europe too. There are many European developers I want to meet and most of them can’t afford a trip to San Francisco.

Glad to see the team finally changed their mind about this, since i think the COVID-19 will last longer than we expected (unfortunately.)

I never could be able to attend RDC since it’s on the USA; So i will probally “attend” this digital event.
(And because i haven’t made something big, yet.)

See yall on the digital event, i guess?

That’s so sad! I’m hoping you guys decide to not make non-invite only if it’s through like Zoom.

I changed my mind, I might join in on RDC this year :sunglasses:

Jokes aside, I do have a few questions:

Where will this digital event be held? Twitch? Roblox?

Will everyone be able to go or is it invite only?

What will be different from a normal RDC?

EDIT: Will it have VR support? I really want to attend RDC in VR :grimacing:

That’s actually a good idea, would also be cool to have a game with VR character rigs that allow speakers to host some sort of VR session.

I’m still stoked for the digital event! I always take lots of notes and learn things from the breakout sessions. Hopefully we’ll be able to meet up in 2021. I expect nothing less than double the energy at next year’s RDC from the attendees :joy:

Remember to wash your hands and avoid unnecessary public trips y’all

I believe it could achieve much, only problem being that there isn’t too many developers that owns a VR headset. I guess we have to wait and see. hopefully they do something like that!

Also, don’t forget the Virtual High fives with Builderman ; )

Its sad that it had to happen, but I’m going to assume that because tickets are being refunded that it won’t be invite only. Every year it is livestreamed, so I assume it will be similar but better suited for a livestream. I guess the only way I can compare it is like an E3 presentation vs a nintendo direct.

I’m wondering just how this will change the event overall, and I hope more info is released soon, but since this is all somewhat last minute I believe we can all be patient.

Although, this does bring up a great question related to Turtlepla’s second question. If there is a game jam, will it be invite only?

Soo can others participate to the event? And rip socializing.

I’m glad Roblox has made a decision on the matter. It might be depressing, but we got to stay healthy!

RDC Is for developers who really know what they’re doing. If it was open to the public there would be a ton of hackers messing around like in the bloxys when people were flying around and blocking the screen so we couldn’t see, that would be a huge problem and there would be a ton of people who aren’t even interested in development and just want to play games or think they get free items out of it, the casual new player probably doesn’t want to create a game just yet.
