Now that we have VR, can we please decrease the clipping pane?

Or at least an option for it? I want to make my game compatible with VR at some point and with the current values I’m just BARELY not cutting into the camera and that’s with the gun already being held relatively far from the camera.

I’ve seen this posted before but now it seems to have some more use. I imagine horror games and fast action games would look weird if you saw a lazer/monster approach your screen and suddenly there’s a random hole inside them due to the clipping pane.

If we could have the plane adjustable from like 0.1 - 1 for PC (with or without VR connected) that would be so amazing.

Yes I’ve seen some of the posts concerning this subject with some Z-Fighting stuff and so on. I still feel like giving the developer control over such a basic camera setting would be a good idea

Out of curiosity, does anyone have any use cases for tweaking the clipping plane aside from first person tools/limbs/etc? All of the feature requests for this (ones posted by myself included) I’ve read are all requesting the change just for those first person tools/limbs.

In VR near clipping plane is already 0.1 (= 3 cm = should be small enough).

Unfortunately this results in precision issues further away from the camera. I have a plan for fixing this at least on PC, but not enough time to do it… but it’ll happen.

Once it does we should be able to use 0.1 on PC even if you’re not in VR. Sadly, on Mac we’re more limited in what we can do (freaking OpenGL) to mitigate the precision issues so we’ll have to evaluate the possible precision loss vs the issues with platform differences.

me too ; the clipping plane is currently a pain when building details smaller than 0.2 .

With Metal support is this still as severe?

Metal makes this a non-issue, but we haven’t switched to it on Mac yet. I think worst-case we’ll automatically enable better clipping plane on hardware that supports it but hardware that doesn’t will have to stay as is.

Does that mean you’ve done the hard part of enabling 0.1 clipping pane?

Still happening? My guns are always clipping through the camera. @zeuxcg
