I want you to go into the catalog and look up the words, “Dominus” and “Valkyrie” and I want you to report back on how many knockoffs you find.
It is chaotic, as it ruins many creator’s livelihoods to even make UGC, heck, some of my friends quit and now they are scrambling for jobs. It’s terrible once you see the bigger picture.
Actually protecting the creators from false reports, I have seen so many talented creators getting their items taken down even after years of being approved.
Have actual human moderators to do the moderating than your current AI system, it’s so clear that it doesn’t even work as intended considering how many knockoffs and 1:1 copy of the current limiteds are still flooding the market these days.
Let creators archive old assets that can put their account at risk of termination.
I get that the pricing and requirements are intended to prevent what I mentioned in my second point but even before this was released, people have already been uploading a bunch of that to the point I keep seeing it recommended on my marketplace.
Another day and another instance of Roblox Corporation taking one step forward after leaping backwards. I couldn’t care less if UGC was freely opened up to anyone with an internet-accessible microwave; but the catalog (I refuse to call it the ‘marketplace’) quality control/moderation is completely nonexistent. At this point, I would rather close UGC off to the strict application process it used to be. Bootleg limiteds and IP-infringing content is already a big problem, and this change only allows for more and worse.
I genuinely don’t care if people rip off Roblox. This is the real problem.
And let’s be clear here; while it is the job of the IP holders to contact Roblox to have them removed, Roblox themselves have an obligation to deny these to begin with, and not have them approved and uploaded when it’s clear to even children that these are all popular brands.
I didn’t think it would be that bad. I tried to keep positive, but it hasn’t even been a day into this update and I can safely say it’s a disaster. There’s been suggestive items uploaded, bypassed meshes, copied and stolen items, and everything in-between
In addition, the higher fees have greatly dissuaded me and many other creators from uploading, and as a result we’re losing earnings. Ironically, despite making the catalog “more free and open” this may be the one of the most anti-creator updates roblox has ever pushed out.
This is straight up taken from a dumb gear that I made nearly a decade ago, with a mesh Roblox made. The difference is that they removed the Nutrition Facts label from the back of the can, and scaled it down. Granted I’m not particularly mad about it since it was meant as a fun little gear when I was obsessed with Pepsiman, but it shows the lack of moderation that UGC is currently experiencing. You can compare the textures down below.
It doesn’t seem like its very strong moderation, then. They do indeed have systems in place that prevent this from happening, but it doesn’t seem to be working very well. It’s important to point out these types of discrepancies if they wish to continue moving forward with public UGC. Granted, this is a recent change so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt. But knowing Roblox’s track record with moderation for nearly 20 years now… I don’t really have my hopes up.
I cannot in good faith say roblox knows what they’re doing. They would rather rush into things and have their creators suffer the effects than actually think things through.
our expectations were low, but this is a whole new level.
