Participate in our first Builder Challenge!

Can we all quickly take in consideration the amount of things you can do with the studio software itself? The main point of the event is to prove that you can really do mostly anything with the preset studio. I see many people pointing out flaws and making questions regarding external software for example “How am I supposed to make low-poly without blender?” or “How can I make textures without photoshop?”

These questions can be very easily answered, all it takes is a lot of creativity and imagination. For example MeshParts, which have a tile like texture could be a replacement for some textures, after all it’s a low poly game, and shouldn’t really require a very complex amount of textures. Same goes with particles.

For the case of not using a 3d modeling software to make it low-poly doesn’t make it impossible. Roblox not only has Unions and SpecialMeshes which will make the job x100 times easier, but it provides a creative platform which you, as it’s a challenge, will be challenged to find creative ways to work around it.

The point of the challenge is not to see who builds the best. It’s to see who is the most creative and of course, the best builder with the resources given. But that’s just my opinion.

After all it’s only been less than a week and the event opens submissions in 2 months. There is a lot of time to reply and to answer questions. I doubt staff will answer most as it just requires a little of attention to understand.

I may have skipped over something while reading, if so, I apologize in advance, but nowhere did they specifically say the use of plugins isn’t allowed.

Which is where I personally got confused in this case is, what exactly are they targeting when they say “to function”. The functionality of the developers ability to build or something that magnifies the game in some way. (e.g. Realism Mod)

As for assets, according to Wikipedia (ignoring its reputation), an asset is a “thing” that goes into a game, in which case, a plugin isn’t necessarily an “asset”. In conclusion, it all seems vague cause there’s people who think this is a no-plugin challenge and those who took note of “functionality” and it’s meaning in this context being vague. So again, I’ll reference the conversation @RamuneRain and @unidentifiedchris had.

I totally respect your viewpoint and opinion on the event. Overall, the event is really neat and I totally understand it’s a longer time-span of an event, but I am fairly disappointed to see that low engagement at the beginning of the event. Either way, in an event like this, I would expect more engagement in the beginning and towards the end.

I want to do this, but sadly I can’t build good terrain. I can only build good models like assets for the game.
Well, anyways good luck to all the participants. Give it your best :+1:

It’s very clear it isn’t hard to understand if you want to use plug-ins go ahead and do it. You’re making things more complicated then they actually are…

This is amazing! Not only does it give me a chance but others too to show off our building skills to the community. I’ve always enjoyed these little contests as it gives exposure to those that do well. I will for sure be taking part and doing my best.

Is Export Selection a fair game? Like when i need to turn my union into a meshpart to reduce lag?

Would something like this be allowed…? Im only using stuff within Roblox studio and no Plugins or External software!

Just wondering, because you did not state it, will we know how many ‘winners’ there are? :busts_in_silhouette:

1! Only 1 stands at the top of epicness!
Jk I’m not sure how many, that’d be cool if there’s Top 3s. And we have 2 months to work on it. The only reward is public exposure which is a little bit of a turn off for me but it’s already great being recognized by the public!

Yeah it does Sound Really Great!!!.

That’s good to hear! I was just wondering since they proclaimed “winners” multiple times at the end.

Hope we have more informations regarding the rules sooner than later.

This is really nice thing for the expert developers in our community. Goodluck all who participate and I hope you win!

What kind of reward?
Robux
Robux is meant to be a currency that cannot be obtained for free if you do not sell limited clothing or make games that people spend Robux on.
Premium time
Again, Premium is only intended for purchase and not a free reward.
Limited item
That one is kinda a fair reward, like Bloxy awards.

I believe there is no reward yet or no reward official set. If they are going to do a reward it would likely be robux. Also the wining games will be put on the game tab so people can see them.

I’ll probably participate one day just to throw my hat in the ring.

I’m no builder, but this seems like a good competition. The only thing I’m sceptical about is how are textures and meshes going to be made? Most very good quality meshes/textures are made with external programs. I understand this is for fun solely, but I’m honestly not sure. Good way for new builders to improve!
