Plugin Marketplace Program - Open to All ID/Phone Verified Creators

Anything that a client (player/dev) can use/access must be stored on the client side. It’s similar to how people can steal maps from games. It’s something the video game industry can’t solve.

As far as I know, the company they are using is Veriff, which is used internationally, plus encrypts their data and removes it when needed.

I wouldn’t call it a random third-party company, especially when many other big companies use it too. They are extremely safe and secure with their data, so I don’t know why you would think it’s harmful to give them your ID. Even if there was a data leak of Veriff, I don’t believe any of the data could actually be used. At the end though, it’s all your choice.

I don’t understand why my opinion infuriates you guys so much. Why would a donation system not work for the best?
I think, Roblox should push the developers to make contents accessible to most and not for selfish motives. Back then, things like hiring people, paying adds etc were very marginal. Creators were making and publishing contents, only by passion and not by pure pecuniary interest.

I didn’t say plugin developers should not be rewarded, Roblox surely can do it themselves : by analysing the number of downloads, premium users etc…

Boatbomber, a popular plugin & open source developer always puts donation links under every resource he posts, yet, he doesn’t get that much from it.

Additionally, how come earning from our own work considered selfish?

Can’t people just use random phone numbers they find on the Internet?

I doubt you could get banned for doing this.

Well I agree. I dont have a smartphone so no number to verify.

Remember, development work is work, not a game. Very few people will actually pay for something unless forced to, and the people who make plugins don’t have an incentive unless they can get paid. If you wanna make things for free, go ahead, but don’t suggest that others should be forced to do the same.

Plugin developers are given the same tools you are, they’re just being paid for the time they spent to do the work for you. Think of it like a commission for a script. I don’t think many people would want to do a commission for free.

Just because you have an opinion does not mean others must agree. I’m sorry if this was more aggressively worded than I intended, but keep in mind that I am criticizing the idea, not you.

also Adobe charges 120 dollars yearly for a PDF editor. Professional software has professional prices. Get used to it.

The number needs to be able to receive texts, and you need to be able to see the content of that text.

Veriff just sends a hash generated off the ID to Roblox, then the ID is deleted after a certain legally required period.

This is one of my favorite updates!!!

Saying people should be forced to sell their work for free is almost like saying barbershops should sell their haircutting services for free. Plugin devs should be given full freedom to either sell plugins for free or not. Also, asking for donations is not very effective as I’d say 99% of the time the money you earn is no where near equivalent to the work you put in.

Scrap my comment. I just learnt that you do not need a “smart” phone to do a phone verification. The first time I had a look at the article about phone verification I stopped reading when I saw it had something to do with QR codes and stuff. I just had another look at it and yes, down the page (you need to scroll a bit) there is also how to do a phone verification using SMS, which also works on a regular mobile phone. In fact, I am going to try it out right away.

Well, you could use any of the established identification systems that already exist. Some, like BankId in Sweden, are based on a Security Application (desktop or mobile) and an encryption device, while others use physical code charts. You have a point though, as these solutions are widely nation-specific, it would probably be unpractical to implement all of them. Let’s hope there will be a worldwide identity verification system in the future.

I would say that passports are a worldwide identity verification system, which you can already upload for ID verification.

I first thought you’d specifically need a “smart” phone. Mobile apps almost exclusively require the use of touchscreens. For some people, touchscreens work poorly if at all, thus they would be discriminated, intentional or not.

The phone verification does not work in my country though. I contacted Roblox Support, but there is no support section for verification related issues. All I get from Roblox support is a copy of the how-to page. This is what happens when you rely on artificial unintelligence.

This sucks. This update sucks. Stop forcing everything to be verified-only. Making everything have to be verified (i swear, at one point we will have to be ID/phone verified to be able to even just make a game public). Forcing everyone to be ID verified will not help at all; it’s just a band-aid fix that will barely last even 1 year. If y’all want for models/plugins to not have viruses/inappropriate stuff, go do something to check the models/plugins, like a team of moderators. Don’t be lazy, do something smart.

It’s very hard to fully check a plugin because malicious code can easily be hidden in just one line if needed, and having moderation look at every single line of code for every single plugin would make moderation times RIDICULOUSLY LONG. No one wants that.

Phone verification has generally been accepted as an easy but effective verification method, and it’s hard to see how someone doesn’t own a phone that can develop on Roblox, which requires an even more expensive PC/MAC or laptop. I do know of a few places where it’s hard, so that’s where a passport, which you can obtain in every country, comes in place.

Not sure where this particularly applies but I personally don’t have a ID and never have, and I do indeed have a phone and a legitimate phone number regardless.

I personally prefer allowing phones, it allows people like me without a ID or people sceptical (or any other reasons for that matter) about sending photos of their id and/or face online. As with any system there’s going to be holes in, especially when it’s a system that has to be fair.

How is Roblox protecting paid plugin developers’ work or assets from being stolen and redistributed on Roblox?

For example, let’s say that a developer creates a paid plugin that contains some custom designed 2D or 3D assets for use by the purchaser. What is to prevent a malicious user from copying these assets and then listing them on the Marketplace for free for anyone to download?

@crayzdesi4 Are there any measures in place to protect a plugin developer’s work?
