Saying people should be forced to sell their work for free is almost like saying barbershops should sell their haircutting services for free. Plugin devs should be given full freedom to either sell plugins for free or not. Also, asking for donations is not very effective as I’d say 99% of the time the money you earn is no where near equivalent to the work you put in.
Scrap my comment. I just learnt that you do not need a “smart” phone to do a phone verification. The first time I had a look at the article about phone verification I stopped reading when I saw it had something to do with QR codes and stuff. I just had another look at it and yes, down the page (you need to scroll a bit) there is also how to do a phone verification using SMS, which also works on a regular mobile phone. In fact, I am going to try it out right away.
Well, you could use any of the established identification systems that already exist. Some, like BankId in Sweden, are based on a Security Application (desktop or mobile) and an encryption device, while others use physical code charts. You have a point though, as these solutions are widely nation-specific, it would probably be unpractical to implement all of them. Let’s hope there will be a worldwide identity verification system in the future.
I would say that passports are a worldwide identity verification system, which you can already upload for ID verification.
I first thought you’d specifically need a “smart” phone. Mobile apps almost exclusively require the use of touchscreens. For some people, touchscreens work poorly if at all, thus they would be discriminated, intentional or not.
The phone verification does not work in my country though. I contacted Roblox Support, but there is no support section for verification related issues. All I get from Roblox support is a copy of the how-to page. This is what happens when you rely on artificial unintelligence.
This sucks. This update sucks. Stop forcing everything to be verified-only. Making everything have to be verified (i swear, at one point we will have to be ID/phone verified to be able to even just make a game public). Forcing everyone to be ID verified will not help at all; it’s just a band-aid fix that will barely last even 1 year. If y’all want for models/plugins to not have viruses/inappropriate stuff, go do something to check the models/plugins, like a team of moderators. Don’t be lazy, do something smart.
It’s very hard to fully check a plugin because malicious code can easily be hidden in just one line if needed, and having moderation look at every single line of code for every single plugin would make moderation times RIDICULOUSLY LONG. No one wants that.
Phone verification has generally been accepted as an easy but effective verification method, and it’s hard to see how someone doesn’t own a phone that can develop on Roblox, which requires an even more expensive PC/MAC or laptop. I do know of a few places where it’s hard, so that’s where a passport, which you can obtain in every country, comes in place.
Not sure where this particularly applies but I personally don’t have a ID and never have, and I do indeed have a phone and a legitimate phone number regardless.
I personally prefer allowing phones, it allows people like me without a ID or people sceptical (or any other reasons for that matter) about sending photos of their id and/or face online. As with any system there’s going to be holes in, especially when it’s a system that has to be fair.
How is Roblox protecting paid plugin developers’ work or assets from being stolen and redistributed on Roblox?
For example, let’s say that a developer creates a paid plugin that contains some custom designed 2D or 3D assets for use by the purchaser. What is to prevent a malicious user from copying these assets and then listing them on the Marketplace for free for anyone to download?
@crayzdesi4 Are there any measures in place to protect a plugin developer’s work?
No, you can LITERALLY steal the plugin with one line of code. Sorry for the late response. It’s way more insecure than you think. If they can fix this for audios, why not plugins?
The SMS based verification still does not work for me though, because Roblox have got the phone prefix wrong. In my country there are different prefices for mobile and landline, and Roblox are referring to the latter (there is, as far I know, no way of receiving text on a landline phone, not that I even own one, does anyone?). I opened a ticket about this problem a month ago and they promised to fix it so there is still hope…
Adding a phone still does not work for my country
same problem, but I can’t remove my phone number
