Isn’t the ChromeOS support only because ChromeOS already natively supports running Android apps?
EDIT: Looked it up and yep, according to support pages about the ChromeOS version, it does use the Android version so that’s why it is “supported”

Android packages can be easily repacked to work on other operating systems which are UNIX based, so still it just feels like laziness than an actual roadblock.
Imo worst thing about it is that the Linux prevention seems to be what the ‘anti-cheat’ is most effective at.
Actual injection clients nowadays trivially bypass protection measures. It’s as if they’re not even there.
Very frustrating issue with no real solution in sight. Would just be awesome to play roblox on a steamdeck lol.
I wouldn’t say it’s that easy because desktop Linux is still kind of a mess:
There’s probably a lot more issues but these are the only ones I can think of right now.
Various libraries, protocols, etc also have bugs of their own (some of which prevent the app from running altogether, or break it in a way that make it unusable)
the best part about linux is that no corporation manages it, the worst part about linux is that also no corporation manages it, so i see why roblox engineers would have a headache trying to handle code for all sorts of things on linux like pipewire, wayland, pulseaudio, nvidia drivers, blablabla (pipewire for example works horribly on my pc, with constant crackling when a lot of ram is being used, so the engineers would even have to choose the less buggy option for most users)
based on the fact that sober, a runtime that bridges the port of android roblox to be ran on linux that has been on a development cycle for no more than probably 8-9 months with a small team behind it, could offer a working roblox for basically 80% of linux users, all i can say is that the worst part of actually porting roblox to linux isnt linux itself but its tiny playerbase, which is probably too much money for roblox corporation to invest i think.
As I mature more as a software developer and branch out to projects other than Roblox, Windows seemingly feels more and more restrictive. Build processes are annoying, command-line software I want to use simply doesn’t work without WSL, and Windows itself feels like it really hates me. I’m even getting ads inside my OPERATING SYSTEM now.
The ONLY thing preventing me from experimenting with a Linux distro and being free from Windows is Roblox. That’s it. Roblox is my job, and I require Windows to work on Roblox.
I’d like to voice my support for Roblox supporting Linux a bit more.
it’s due to the fact that Android is actually based on ChromeOS, so after adding support for Android, they pretty much had ChromeOS already sorted.
HOWEVER I think that it is kinda annoying they’re supporting an OS which is roughly half the size, while refusing to give us Linux support because “linux users have to much control over their THEIR machine”.
As has been said previously here, it doesn’t matter how much anticheat you add, and if its on the client or the server, hackers WILL find a way around, so using the larger amount of control as an excuse to not implement support is just lazy IMO
roblox can make a dma anticheat
Android is based on Linux, not ChromeOS. ChromeOS just happens to also be based on Linux.
i really really need this, the only reason i haven’t switched from windows to linux is roblox.
I’m so extremely disappointed by the fact that they are now recommending you to use Windows 11 in their Studio specifications. This is just outrageous and a new low!
Go on your way to encourage others to get Windows 11 with stupid Copilot in, I’m NEVER EVEN going to use Windows 11 ever in my life.
Linux support would require a competent Linux anti-cheat which is not possible
limiting the kernel code changes and using mmat and mmkat will work
Ok but where’s the competent Windows anti-cheat?
Hyperion has every public executor detected already. It’s Roblox’s job to act on those detections
Not at all. Linux anti cheats are trivial to bypass because there are no protections
its not an anticheat, its a new syscall(kernel feature with an id) actually 2
Never said it was. Reread what I said
