Question about UGC copyright

Hi! I’m working on a hangout game which allows you to buy wearable items. I would like to use the meshes some UGC items provided, though stripped of their original texture.

Example:

Would this be a problem? Are there certain things that need to be kept in mind? Any information is welcome.

UGC creators retain all IP for their creations (both texture and geometry), so you have to ask that creator for permission to use them.

Isn’t that gist of everything tho but they don’t hold an actual copy right. Theoretically you could copy right it and take the rights?

You would need to contact the individual that made the original items, since it’s their content not yours. A majority of content creators will be willing to give permission as long as you credit their work, do not risk sanctions against your account for taking shortcuts.

As an additional note if content is included in your game (e.g. mesh converted to part) and that original mesh is removed (by roblox due to violations of rules) then you’ll need to remove it too.

Supporting Evidence

Roblox Community Rules,
Section II. Additional Rules for Developers,
3.) Using Appropriate Content

“Do not upload or use content or materials that you do not own or have permission from the owner to use. If we are notified that your uploaded content violates another’s intellectual property rights, we will block or remove that content without notice and follow the process set out in [Roblox Terms of Use]”
