i’ve been following this topic for a while, trying to see what good arguments people are presenting, some are good in the favor of ai. and some are just weirdly unnecessary.
take the time thing for example! ai is fast, sounds good for devs right?
well if you are a bit good at time management, you would be able ask for an GFX waaay before the launch. after all making a game takes more time than 3 thumbnails and an icon. The site visuals rarely set the games back. (if you’re working with 3D ofc)
Not having enough money doesn’t mean you can’t get an artist to work for you
if your idea and visible progress on the game are promising. Others would like to be a part of it and contribute. It might sound unreal for some but that happens a lot in the independent game space(game jams for example)
I see potential in ai being helpful, but don’t forget roblox’s Moto even when they themselves forget it.
If everyone can just get an ai for all the things they don’t know. this will just devide the community…
The point of a game icon and thumbnail is to showcase the game itself.
People play a game for the game, not some overly polished shiny neon cartoon playmobil character that does not even exist in it.
If your game has nothing good in it to even use as a thumbnail, then the truth is, that sucks, and you should continue developing your game until it is good quality. Do not use AI or some other fancy thing to fake one. Would you tell your parents you got 97% in an exam you didn’t even sit? (I’d hope not)
Anyways that’s my opinion, not targeted at the OP, just at AI as a whole.
I personally specifically avoid playing games with AI Thumbnails. I don’t wanna see a horror game with a cartoony looking thumbnail.
It also seems like a lack of effort/budget to use AI thumbnails. That’s also one of the reasons I don’t click on games that have AI generated thumbnails.
RBLX/ai - Update (July 28th, 2024)
Hey everyone, I want to share a little update on what’s to come with the tool as it’s been getting great reception.
Some small bug fixes and patches (live now):
- Not being able to sign in/up with a Roblox account.
- An issue with receiving Credits from the Roblox game.
- Optimized the engine.
- Since there is high demand, I’ve raised the prices slightly for the USD pay-as-you-go packs (not Roblox packs)
- Changes to the Pricing page.
- Documentation for UI Icons/Vectors for when they release.
I’ve been working on a new tool for the website that allows you to easily generate UI Icons/Vectors. It’s not fully ready to be released yet but it will be coming soon, here’s a couple sneak peaks of the generations:
Thanks to everyone who has used the tool, referred users, purchased packs or shared the website with friends – It helps a lot!
These are amazing! good job man
What is this… okay bro this is enough community resources for today.
Lol no I wouldn’t go that far (if anything it’s turning people off), the AI thumbnails are just blatant and don’t look good. Just AI slop I could make for free with DALL-E. Wouldn’t want it for a game anyways. Not against AI but this just isn’t it man
Perhaps you could provide examples where DALL-E has better results, I’d be curious to see.
A lot of these Thumbnails and Icons actually do look good, and I can back those claims up by providing you multiple front page games or games with good amount of CCU which utilize these AI Thumbnails and Icons.
Adding onto that, I’ll actually be adding a section on the website to display some of the games that RBLX/ai has helped, including metrics of those games.
Come on let devs do some work and make their own thumbnails, dont make them lazy
I don’t have examples ready but you probably just have a couple of internal prompts which are reproducible if you really try assuming you’re using DALL-E. That’s not the issue though it’s that they look bad and so insanely artificial that they’d just turn me off from a game instead of saying “it looks so good i want to play it!”
Website homepage looks nice but that’s about it sorry
ok bud… id much rather design the icons myself than use soulless ai slop
honestly i would rather just use screenshots from the actual game instead of this ai garbage, no gfx or anything. old school style
I see there is a free version… but when you try use the Ai thingy … it says it needs credits.
What’s free (& naturally with limitations) … about this Ai generator ?
EDIT: I tried to use RBLX/Ai Assistant to figure the Free Version issues out… and boy… was it annoying… apologizing after every failed suggestion… round & round I went.
Don’t get me wrong… I like using Ai… but this pushes me further & further from any RBLX Ai.
1st on the website…
- Log in to your Roblox account: Make sure you’re logged in to your Roblox account on the Roblox website.
- Go to the AI Icon Generator: Navigate to the Roblox AI Icon Generator page on the Roblox website.
ME: Where do I find this … “Go to the AI Icon Generator”
It seems that I made an error in my previous response. The Roblox AI Icon Generator is not a publicly available tool on the Roblox website.
Ai started to suggest I can make the Icon in Studio… instead of the Website
NOW IN STUDIO …
ME: Where is the “INSERT” menu ? I don’t see it in Studio.
Reply:
It seems that I made an error in my previous response. The “Insert” menu is not a standard menu in Roblox Studio.
I surely hope they fix the Ai… bcoz I gave up after this … advising me to go elsewhere LOL
ME: I still can’t find it.
It seems that I made an error in my previous responses. The Icon Maker tool is not a built-in feature of Roblox Studio.
Roblox does not have a built-in icon maker or AI icon generator. I made an error in my previous responses by suggesting that it did.
If you’re looking to create custom icons for your Roblox experiences, you can use a third-party tool or software, such as Adobe Illustrator, Canva, or GIMP. You can also use online icon makers or design tools that are not affiliated with Roblox.
Again, I apologize for the confusion and any frustration my previous responses may have caused. If you have any other questions or need further assistance, please don’t hesitate to ask.
Isn’t this just Microsoft’s image generation AI embedded into your own application
oh yeah i ve tried the same prompt as yours looks like your ai is better than the others for roblox thumbnail generation
This is amazing. Great to see AI advancing, it’s the future of development. I love AI!!!
“Soulless ai slop” when AI is literally the coolest thing ever.
Come on let devs make their own games and not be lazy, we need to completely abolish the marketplace of models and make everything be built by hand.
Calling a high quality program AI slop is hilarious.
There is now way you’re not being satire
I didn’t call the program bad. Just the outputs. AI should not be used for this. My. point isn’t limited to this - DALL-E is also really bad. You’re just paying to use this for a prompt lmao
