Rename Discussion --> Development discussion

Once again a post about the ever dwindling #discussion category.

On the first day of Christmas the dev forum gave to me: One bad decision
On the second day of Christmas the dev forum gave to me: Two line posts
On the third day of Christmas the dev forum gave to me: Roblox discussion posts (Today)

Don’t judge my epic music skills im tired ok

Today ive been noticing a huge incline in the amount of topics directly relating to just general roblox discussion, despite the fact discussion has the simplest description of all categories stating ‘For discussing the art of making things on roblox’ Not ‘Talk about roblox’.

Not only is this a violation of the category guidelines but it seems to be contributing to the mentality of following your friends of the cliff face, with many members making roblox discussion posts, well, ‘Because everyone else was doing it’.

This is once again bringing up the issue of there being many posts in #discussion that are blatant duplicates of posts in #lounge:roblox-discussion, intact at this point they are basically being used for the same purpose with the exception that one is locked from members. Im also interested if we are allowed to flag posts in discussion for being duplicates of posts in lounge?

There really needs to be some hard rule enforcement on discussion, since every day someone finds a way to once again use the category for everything other then its intended purpose, why don’t we just call it ‘the other category’ at this point and let members post what they please.

Therefor I feel it is necessary to rename the category to development discussion, just in the bitter hope that maybe at least one person may read the cartagory title and question if their post is about development.

@TheCarbyneUniverse said this 10x better then me, I recommend you read everything he had to say too:

Edit: just was looking at a flagged post and saw @sjr04 suggested this 3 days ago in a reply briefly, this post was not based at all of that reply but would still like to give credit where it’s due

The thing is, the entire Forum is supposed to be about development, but what do you know–most people don’t know that for some reason. And when they see “Discussion” instead of “Development Discussion”, they think it’s the perfect category for any type of discussion, not development related. It technically doesn’t need to be changed back, but I think it should be as you said, just to further enforce that it is explicitly about development discussion.

Another thing is that people are now trying to twist their posts to make it go in discussion. For example, even though it best fits in support, they word the title so it’s like “What do you think of x?” or “How do you deal with x?” while the post itself is about some support needed with something that happened to them only. Such posts can simply be titled “How do I do x?” and be put in a support category. This especially applies to the topics who have a solution, meaning it most likely fits in a support category and not discussion.

This all circles back to the discussion category getting so much attention with every topic (or it used to be the case until the quality crashed, especially due to those 1-line topics), meaning it’s a prime place for those who indulge in farming likes. Either this category misuse is unintentional (naive members) or intentional (for the likes).

If this keeps increasing, there can be many problems that can arise apart from trash being accumulated in the category. Actual good discussion and Regular-posed topics will slowly be driven out or drowned out in all the chaos. It’s only if the topic rises above the low-quality ones will it get the deserved attention. It’s like a high-pressure stream of water being shot at our faces, giving us no choice but to back down.

Also, look at the rate of topics now:

6 topics a day. Just let that sink in. I’ve seen like 1 per day before all this or even 1 per 3 days, but 6? You know how too much of anything can make it less valuable? That’s what’s happening right now.

Please rename it back to “Development Discussion” for the above reasons. It’s literally adding one word to potentially stop hundreds of posts a month from flooding in.
Thank you.

Also: the discussion topics that are talking about the discussion category–that’s ironic and plain cringe. The people who don’t know how to use it properly post about others not using it properly…?

I am totally in support of this. Too many people are just crap-posting in discussion and it is literally making me go insane. Due to it being called discussion, I think some people believes they can just talk about whatever the hell they want there. I’ve posted a screenshot showing just how bad some of the posts are in Discussion now.

This makes sense to me, that way Lounge can focus on non-development Roblox discussion for TL1+.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Hello,
I was off from forum for a while. I feel like #discussion is being open for everyone and new members doesn’t require post approval procedure. I know this will be hard for you, but it will be better to being up post approval procedure. Now many topics are wrongly selected in categories, being off-topic, having no sense and duplicated. I think it will be the best way to keep forum clear.

Post approval is being abolished in September and the new system is only up to speculation (Some details about it would be nice in advance), Therefor all solutions discussed should not revolve around approval measures since it’s like talking to a brick wall.

Is there any chance for this change coming soon, my current main objection to discussion being opened is how off topic the large majority of new posts are and I still believe this would greatly help the change.

I would also bring up the issue of stubbornness of some members when it comes to admitting their post is in the wrong category, for example I dm’ed one saying the topic was not fitting for discussion and they just argued ‘I felt it was the most relevant one for my post’, this, to me at least, shows that regardless of what they want to post, members will post it in the nearest fitting category even if its not relevant to the forum.

It has been done.

Looks like someone made this change silently (no announcement yet).
