Roblox Icon Library (formally known as ‘Local Icons’) is a blazingly fast icon library that takes over 4K unique (or 9K total) icons from your Roblox files, and puts them in an easy to navigate plugin, where quickly copying asset ids is a breeze! Perfect for use in plugins, or experiences!

Powered by Fusion 0.2

Use cases

Because this plugin is a collection of all the icons used throughout studio (and more), it makes it especially useful when you’re trying to smoothly integrate your developer tool with the studio ecosystem. Maybe you’re trying to recreate the terrain editor, or you found something lacking with the built-in material manager. Whatever your use-case, Roblox Icon Library’s got you covered!

Advantages

One of the plugin’s big strengths over user uploaded content is that all of these icons are already downloaded and stored in your computer with every roblox update; meaning no HTTP requests needed, making your content load faster and with no network traffic.

Because of this, they can even be useful for fallback icons when content fails to load!

Themes

Not a fan of blue? Roblox Icon Library supports 7 themes Red, Orange, Green, Blue, Purple, Lavender, and Grey with more on the way

Intuitive Interface

One of my biggest focuses working on this plugin was accessibility, and an intuitive interface. Some of these features include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Middle mouse scroll (auto scrolling)

  • Right click icons for a list of actions

  • Double clicking an icon to perform customizable actions included in the right click menu

  • Enlarged Preview

  • Arrow keys to switch between enlarged icons

  • Hover an icon for a selectable input field with more info where you can quickly copy the inspected icon’s AssetId

Not to be mean or anything but if we all already have these icons then why pay for it? Just makes it kind of useless… Not being rude again, just giving my opinion. Nor… am I wanting to start an argument.

It’s perhaps more expedient, and actually, it’s free.

I do know it’s “free”. You could say it’s expedient because it would just aid those who don’t have the skills or time to dig through their files. Even though it won’t take much time and would easily save 5 bucks. It’s not that I am being cheap here, just stating that I could use the 5 bucks on something much more useful like a latte.

it is free, with donations to support the creator

… I do know it’s free.

But fun fact: Itch.io doesn’t work in my area.

Which means that I literally can’t buy this plugin at all.

Why is one free but not the other?

No worries that’s a good question! Some of the benefits over simply looking up the icons in your file system include, but aren’t limited to

  • Faster icon searching (especially when compared to the windows file manager), as well as being able to search multiple queries at a time.
  • Being able to quickly copy asset ids instead of having to manually type them out once you finally find an image that ‘might’ work.
  • Having all your icons in 1 place as opposed to separate folders.
  • Being able to insert ImageLabels with a single click.

So in the end you’re not really ‘Paying for the icons’ as opposed to paying to support me, and to help further the development of the plugin, and the features it provides.

It’s not that I am being cheap here, just stating that I could use the 5 bucks on something much more useful like a latte.

I’ll try to keep my comment short on the “I’d rather spend my 5 dollars on something useful”, as it’s very much opinion based, and for some people this may provide 5 dollars + of value, and for others it may provide nothing, which is why I also provide the files on itch.io

But fun fact: Itch.io doesn’t work in my area.

I’m sorry to hear that. It was my understanding itch.io didn’t have region limitations! I’m gonna add a disclaimer to the bottom of my post, but feel free to shoot me a dm if this is the case for you, and I’ll send over the RBXM file.

If anybody knows of any alternatives to itch that work in more regions please let me know, as region locking is one of the main reasons for me making a page over there.

Aren’t the bottom three basically the first one? Just worded differently? Like all these points do one thing which is saving time.

You’re not wrong. I answered that on y reply to Megalodox_Official as well that I agree that the functionality and pricing of this plugin is pretty much based on opinion.

Yeah, it sadly does. And about the plugin, I will see about that. Not as in I hate the plugin, oh no. It’s pretty good. But as in that it’s not that much of a use for me.

I mean the first point is strictly about searching, as I can search all 9k icons within the plugin in far under 100ms, whereas searching the the file manager usually takes me a few minutes at best.

The second to last point was more a point accessibility rather than speed. I often times find myself wanting to compare a few icons which isn’t as easy to do when they’re scattered across folders.

But yeah you could consolidate them into, this saves many minutes, if not collective hours of time (in my case) over using the file manager.

But as in that it’s not that much of a use for me.

Yeah if icon pickers aren’t for you, they aren’t for you there’s no problem with that!

Aren’t the bottom three basically the first one? Just worded differently?

No? “Saving time” is a subjective concept, not a specific feature. Whether something saves time for someone or not is their decision to make based on their interpretation of the feature set.

Ah, I understand now.

I was saying this plugin as an example.

Won’t it just be the same thing as being fast? Which is the first point.

I don’t know why I should buy this but hey, people find it useful, good?
I will still prefer free options, this is not very essential.

It’s free on itch.io, as stated here:

So why does it cost money in the marketplace?
If it is free, but you can help the author, it should be free in the marketplace, no?

Many plugins make a “pro version”, they launch a free version and a paid version with more things. Not all people feel comfortable/safe or know how to install plugins from external pages.

yeah i agree, it would be better if OP made a donations page and made the creator store version free.

Plugins are far safer when downloaded as an rbxm file as this gives you the full source code before install to ensure you’re not downloading anything malicious.

The reason it’s not free on the marketplace is because they currently don’t have a “name your price” model for payment where the consumer determines how much the plugin is worth to them.

At the end of the day, this is still a plugin I’ve put many months of development and testing into, and so to continue it I do need compensation and can’t just put it up for free. There is a free option for people who feel the plugin doesnt provide value to them / cannot afford it (which is completely fine btw and you shouldnt feel obligated to pay), and I link this devforum post in the description of the plugin so users can see that option.
