There are no plans for roblox to be ported to Linux, nor is there currently any incentive for us to do so. That is your answer.
There are currently no plans to offer a Linux client or Studio support for ROBLOX.
If you are concerned about Windows security, we do offer and support a Mac OSX version of both our client and Studio for your use in developing and playing games.
What if the government peeks at this post
What if the government peeks at this post :O
āIām just a kid who likes to brag online about all the bad stuff I do, if you want, you can get a warrant and check my PC, I donāt have any illegal files on itā
Itās a decent plan, although itās not ideal, as they can decide to still mess with you anyway. (And no, courts donāt always rule according to the law, Iāve attended many court cases, only about 10% follow the law, another 40% follow common sense, and the other 50% is utter corruption and bologna, so I donāt really want to have to depend on excuses)
By the way, thankyou for the official response Neither are a good option, but Iāll see if I can find a satisfying way to work it out, a Win8 VM is definitely an option at this point. Why not take volunteers for a Linux port, though? Iām sure lots of people here would intern to accomplish that.
Out of curiosity, what data do you think they collect exactly that is harmful to you?
If itās data youāre afraid could be used to identify you, what are you doing to make people attempt to identify you?
No, itās not identifying data Iād be worried about, although that is also important to me, Itās actually mostly plans, designs, CAD files for machines that are confidential, and Iām not happy about Microsoft getting a hold of them. While I think itās unlikely much will be done with them, in the off chance that a hacker gets a hold of them and realizes what they are, and sells them, I would be insanely upset. Another one is that they could easily be misconstrued as designs for illegal machines (And I have the plans for two illegal ones as well, for archival reasons), and I donāt want the ATF/Swat/etc. busting into my door to arrest me because Microsoft stored all our data in one place, and the government asked to peek at the data (the two illegal files would be easily found, they are already in the governmentās database, so a simple file hash comparison would locate them, I never bothered to encrypt the files because I assumed my privacy was my privacy).
The reason for Roblox to switch is itās looking like I am now going to dual boot XP and linux, which means I have to find all of the XP drivers over again, and my time spent working on roblox (a significant portion of my day) I had to deal with only 2GBs of RAM, and no, Mac is not an option, as they are just as free with your privacy as Windows is.
A linux port should be simple, both Mac and Android are based on Linux, and Roblox should be using cross-platform libraries for almost everything. Unless Roblox did something really hacky and wrong, Linux support should be as simple as adding in a few flags, and compiling the source for Linux.
Edit: One reason (not the only) that I wouldnāt want people to identify me is that online Iām freer about telling people Iām a psychopath, which I am fairly certain you know is not a culturally acceptable mental condition. The only person who knows I am IRL is my mom, and if everyone knew Iām pretty sure my life would be permanently wrecked, even if I could avoid being sent to a mental hospital if someone tried to do me harm (being popular will always make a few people mad at you, and being non-conformist will make a few more). Although the risk of being identified, and then someone being upset enough at me to try and wreck my life is low, Iām more concerned about being charged with possession of illegal plans/designs.
My late brother was openly psychopathic, schizophrenic, blackout-rage-disordered, ADD, ADHD, sociopathic, as well as many other ailments, including but not limited to paranoia. And frankly, thatās all this sounds like. Your name is a lot less valuable than you think, and your life wonāt be a wreck. My brother was never sent to a mental hospital never to return, and the only time he was ever sent to one was when his cocktail of mental issues acted up. Even then it was for a month or two at most and he was out again. Unless you kill someone, your psychopathy is not gonna get you locked up. So if that is your only concern, youāre in no way at risk.
(And a simple solution is wash the ātwo illegalā files from your system or encrypt them. Archiving purposes arenāt worth risking your free life for, and the only real reason youād need them is if you intended on using them. At which point it is your own fault for intending to enact an illegal plan, and if you get caught you should bear the consequences)
Regardless, that wonāt save me because theyāve already been sent to Microsoft, I was using that as an example for why people expect their right to privacy to not be violated without warning.
Do you have any evidence to support this?
I have to reboot my computer
So not restarting your computer is more important than having critical vulnerabilities patched?
You could just use linux and have windows in a VMā¦
Thereās even a linux-stuff OS thatās designed to run every (or a group of similar) program(s) in their own VM.
I remember something along the lines that they also have a built-in windows VM on there.
(Or at least very easy to install) (I forgot if it was the full desktop OS, or just the ability to run windows programs)
You could also just have a linux VM with encryption.
Pre-Edit (writing post, googling info, and adding it to the post before submitting it. idk why I call it this)
After googling, the OS I was talking about is Qubes OS.
It (or at least later versions) fully supports Windows 7-based AppVMs.
(They mention that it isnāt as lightweight as the Linux AppVMs though)
MS Office, for example, runs fine on it.
I might actually download that OS and run it in a VM, just for fun.
Iāll test roblox on it while Iām at it.
