A few days after Release Notes for 658 was published, I joined a game and noticed that I could no longer hear any in-game audio, nor did the Roblox Player appear in the Windows Volume Mixer. I opened up the Roblox Settings Menu to increase the in-game volume to the maximum value, and also tried increasing my Windows volume, but that did not change anything.
I made sure this was not an issue with my speakers. I have not observed this issue when using other, non-Roblox applications.
I have also tried reinstalling the Roblox Player and Roblox Studio but the issue continued happening.
Additionally, with this update, both the “Volume” and “Camera Sensitivity” sliders were moved from the center of the settings menu to the very top of the list. I am unsure if this is related to the issue I am observing, but I wanted to highlight it, just in case.
This change happened to my Roblox client once before (sometime during 2024 for at least 1 week, and then the change was reverted), although I never noticed any audio issues when that change was originally tested.
Another unexpected behavior that I noticed ever since this update released, is that the first time I try to join a game on Roblox after turning on my computer for the day, the Roblox Player silently fails to launch. There is no error message, the Roblox Player just never opens. The next time I try to join, it successfully launches the application, and then all subsequent join attempts work until the next time I restart my computer.
This audio issue only occurs with the Roblox Player and Roblox Studio applications, and happens in every single game I join. However, the Microsoft Store version of Roblox works as intended, outputting audio and also appears in the Windows Volume Mixer without any problem.

Roblox Player - Sound does not work (App not visible in Volume Mixer)
(On MacOS;)
Not sure if it’s related, but everytime I join, Roblox selects the wrong output device and I have to always manually switch it back to the correct device. The correct device is selected as the default in my device settings and it’s the only app that does this. I noticed it start happening in the same time frame
Ohhhh, good find! I just joined a game on Roblox to check if this is what happened to me, and sure enough, the Output Device was automatically changed to a different one.
After changing it back to the correct Output Device in-game, both the Roblox Player and Roblox Studio are now visible in the Volume Mixer.
Upon joining several games, it doesn’t seem to automatically switch to a different Output Device every time on my end, (neither does it swap back after restarting my computer) so maybe it only occurred for me when the new version was installed.
Maybe there’s a difference in how the new version behaves on Windows vs MacOS? By chance, did your in-game settings menu also update to have the Volume / Camera Sensitivity sliders repositioned to the top of the list?
I’ll keep this bug report open so that they can investigate what could be causing it to automatically switch Output Device upon install, as well as what you’re experiencing with it swapping every time you join a game.
As a follow-up question, does it still happen when you leave a game, keep the Roblox Client / app open, and then join a new game from the client? Or, does it only happen when leaving a game, fully closing out the Roblox Client, and then joining a new game from the website?
I can’t replicate the output issue atm, but it appeared to happen on & off, so it might happen again assuming it hasn’t been silently fixed or similar
fyi, I tried opening the app in different ways and other stuff before this
Speakers - Realtek High Definition Audio - (This is the only one I use / the computer default)
ASUS MG279 - NVIDIA High Definition Audio - (Computer Monitor)
Realtek Digital Output - Realtek High Definition Audio - (I don’t know how this one works)
After @drewbluewasabi 's first post on this thread, I realized that I hadn’t checked what my Output Device was set to in the in-game Roblox Settings, so I went to check it and it had been automatically swapped to the third Output device (Realtek Digital Output - Realtek High Definition Audio).
After changing it back to the Speakers - Realtek High Definition Audio Output Device, both the Roblox Player and Roblox Studio appeared in the Windows Volume Mixer again.
In recent memory, this is the only time I can recall the in-game Output Device being automatically changed upon downloading the latest version of the Roblox Player / Roblox Studio.
