Roblox's Moderation Needs To Be Fixed

Yup! If Roblox dropped everything they were working on right now & paused all future updates for 2020 to work on a serious moderation overhaul, 2021 for Roblox could be a very good year.

You’re absolutely right, developer brother …
Do you think there is a way to make this problem known without generating controversy?

Yes 100%! Can we talk about it in devforum messages?

Yes I understand lets just hope for the best though.

The moderation is pretty questionable. To be honest I have some stuff I could say about the moderation team but I don’t wanna risk getting banned. The moderation team is like a corrupt officer breaking the law for their own benefit at points there are good mods but some are questionable. I would really worry about what is happening more and more often like people getting scammed etc but they ignore that. They do however get rid of games with 18+ things in them and they do take care of the website moderation.

But Roblox moderation has fallen due to the expansion of the platform and now you have to change to this mindset where moderation takes care of website stuff and developers have to take care of their own games moderation if they want to assure a safe platform.

I love this idea. But topics like these are usually reported and finally eliminated

Yes indeed JustCRyan this was a very good conversation that could been talked together in the future!

I 100% agree. The current state of Roblox’s moderation aims too heavily on zero-tolerance policies; they often terminate accounts for a lot of low-level rule infractions. It’d be great if that could change.

I disagree. Roblox has limited resources, they can’t possibly properly moderate every account. I want them to, but it’s unreasonable.

What I think Roblox really needs to change is the appeal system/process. I don’t care if the Roblox moderation system is the worst in the world, but I would feel 10 million times better if I at least knew the appeal system is good. That eases my mind, it gives me hope. It gives me peace of mind. It lets me know, “Hey even I get a ban, it’s not like I will lose years of work and all my money, I can just appeal.”

But seeing as the Roblox appeal team seems like heartless robots who don’t care about developers loosing their lives work, that is what I see as the problem.

Yes indeed but also there has been accounts being banned or terminated in the past for no reason or false reasons but there always can be improvements in the future!

For sure, the moderation system can be improved regardless. I would rather prefer that they put focus on improving the appeal process though.

Yes but roblox staffs also have to worry about the games and accounts, because if roblox staffs worry about one thing then people will strike at best and the whole platform will be destroyed so it will be a difficult thing and risky thing if staffs go ahead and worry about the bot now

Although they have limited resources, I still believe that you can give out lighter punishments in general, compared to just going straight with account terminations.

Nowadays, you’re more likely to see people’s accounts get terminated than suspended for twelve days. A small change like reducing the harshness of punishments can go a long way.

I appreciate all the replies and most/all are valid. @Sentross veryyyy true but personally I’d want them to work on the moderation system first so I don’t have to go through the actual stress of getting banned or other knowing everything I worked for could be gone.

The severity of bypassing has gotten so far that it’s beginning to hold peoples lives. (This is a push) but a child could see these images of themselves being plastered on these games and potentially kill themselves. This is a terrible thing that I wouldn’t wish on anyone and then we would really have an uproar. This is leaving children vulnerable to predators.
On the other hand, we have developers who can lose their livelihoods over something like this.

I apologize for those who thought my post seemed offtopic by explaining with the children parts, but children will absolutely come before anything else… including roblox and developers livelihoods. I would rather lose my job than a child lose their life

This topic is very crucial, and @xXNovaXx8 are making a post following up to this. If you guys have any issues that need to be adressed, please reply to this post, or send them to me, so we can complie it into a good post!

I do agree that the moderation needs to be built-up more and made better. It’s frusturating that not much has really been done to address these issues, hopefully we can see more improvements in the future.

I’m also wondering why this topic was flagged?

To be completely honest, I don’t know how you can hire a member of moderation to let bypassed audios and [insert 18+ content here] on a Children’s and Teens website which is COPPA compliant. And Roblox doesn’t get a break with numerous news outlets bashing them about predator stories on 3rd party apps and exploiters using [***] tools (the ones you make in studio) on younger audiences which is completely disgusting, to be a use for clicks by news outlets. In conclusion Roblox Moderation needs a massive overhaul and rethinking when they must moderate 1.5 billion accounts, assets and audios.

Nobody is punished for trading limiteds. People are sometimes accidentally moderated incorrectly for stolen asset trading, but that’s a matter for appeals.

Roblox’s moderation is overall quite good. Yeah, you can make pornographic games in Studio, but there is no way to prevent that at scale except reporting the game when you find it.

Nobody “hires” staff who let bad content through. There is an error margin. They’re humans. It’s extremely rare for stuff to get through being reviewed though, and when it is it is caught quickly.

While my hope in the Roblox moderation system was restored because of my own experience and other experiences, I had the feeling that Roblox is working on this issue.

Sadly, a fresh example of a completely unfair ban arrived today. It’s sad that a moderator can punish users and delete assets with one click, when there is a developer who does lots of work and spends tons of hours.

According to the breach Roblox had last summer (a hacker bribed a moderator), I saw that there is something as protected users but that this only is meant for top developers and video star creators.
Why don’t you seem to care about small(er) developers when it’s about moderation? What’s the point? Don’t we make enough money?

There also is another issue related to moderation. Actually rule breaking people aren’t always punished, even not when a report is made though the report abuse feature. This feels very unfair, and I hope you can address this issue.
