Run 3D Geometry At Native Resolution

To start, here is the RBXDev offices on a 4K/2160p monitor at 200% scaling on Windows.

But… if you zoom in a lot, it isn’t running at 4K. Instead, it is running at 1080p. You can tell because there is 2x2 groupings of pixels of the same color.

TL;DR over, now for the “new format”:

“As a Roblox developer, it is currently too hard to” obtain very high quality, crisp images to then downsample for things like thumbnails. This also means a 1080p display running at 150% scaling, a common combination, results in the gaming running at 720p, which doesn’t scale easily compared to 2160p to 1080p. And as a gamer with a GTX 1070 and i7 6820HK, I know I can run Roblox at native 4K. Theoretically it should result in less aliasing when in-game.

So the issue is that if you set windows scaling to 200% it’ll effect how roblox renders 3d?

This is the case. However, if the GUIs aren’t scaled, they become VERY tiny at larger resolutions.

If I have my monitor set to 100% scaling (no change) I will not get this issue, correct?

This is the case.

No easy way to check right now, but I’m fairly sure that’s not the case. It scales regardless.

I have tried 1080p at 100% on my Lenovo Y510P, and Roblox runs properly at 1080p instead of 720p.

Yeah. I haven’t been able to get Roblox to run at more than 1080p. It’s independent of the device’s scale. I’ll have to check what’s going on when I’m back in the office.

If you set the scale to 100%, all of the text and UI will be extremely small, but yes, there will be no scaling.

I’ve done it with studio and it worked, at least. Player might be different…
