The SAT/ACT is one of those “scary” standardized tests that high school students tend to have to take during their high school career. I was thinking about taking the idea of test-taking and make it into a game to alleviate the stress of having to take it and also understanding old and new concepts.
Essentially, what I would do is take the world of Roblox, like the shapes, characters, etc. and create practice problems to allow players to study as well as gain new understandings. For example, if it were a geometry problem like a Circle, I’d create an asset that will have the circle, with the radius/diameter highlighted, and try to make it as interactive as I can possibly. If the player gets the question right/wrong, they’d have the opportunity to go over the problem with a detailed and interactive explanation.
Is this feasible? I know that there will be people who will say “use Khan Academy or books”, however, this could just be used as an alternative for those who prefer it. I also do understand that this may not be a “game”, however, there is a learning section on the games page. What do you think?
I actually use a school program that’s very similar to this, not on Roblox, but its made me very good at math. If you use each game to focus on a single subject, that would be pretty fun and useful.
If you told me I could study for the SAT/ACT by playing a game, I would have actually studied for it. I think this is a good idea. A game for those system of two equations questions specifically would have helped me a ton. I hated those.
Personally, I think this is a very unique idea. I could see people wanting to use it, and it could be very helpful. Just a few things however:
The majority of the roblox audience are children who are too young to take the SAT/ACT test. This would mean the game probably wouldn’t do very well. Even if high school students were to look for a study method like this, with roblox’s reputation as a recreational platform I doubt many students would use it.
The SAT/ACT may very well not be a thing in the near future. That doesn’t mean a standardized test for high school students won’t exist, I just know many colleges and schools are thinking of getting rid of it (at least in California, where I live).
So in conclusion, I think it’s a good idea in theory, however the success of the project probably wouldn’t be very significant. That being said, I still think it could help a lot of people if you decided to still create it.
If you wanted to make a fun, interactive game for a college-level test on Roblox, that would be cool, but I doubt a lot of people would use it. The reputation Roblox has as a more kid-to-early-teen based platform would deter people. There’s not a large audience looking for this. And sure, this might get some plays, but I doubt people will use it in any major way. In fact, I doubt they’ll use it for more than a few minutes.
Psychologically, there’s a reason there aren’t as many academic “games” for older teens. Keep that in mind before you move forward with this.
I would use the same model of the game you are proposing but tweak it for younger kids, around ages 7 to 10. That’s a demographic that would more likely use and be helped by this game.
