Say "Hello" to Display Names!

i feel like something like this might need some sort of developer verification, sort of like twitter verification to combat people impersonating others

Most of the scamming with DisplayNames is already pretty much possible with custom playerlists. As shown before in this thread, checking someone’s real username is as simple as clicking a button. The same applies for your other examples.

A few usernames such as Roblox staff or popular devs will also be blocked.

But now people can scam in any game pretending to be roblox ect…

Yes, that’s the whole point of DisplayNames. If they were unique, then they would be usernames with a few less restrictions.

Will the price to change your username lower? Because this update kind of defeats the purpose of 1000 robux username changes

Are there plans to give developers tools to test this feature before it rolls out? Will players in local testing servers (Player1, Player2, etc) have display names different from their “real” names?

Yes, that is the purpose. People would be able to have the same display names, however different usernames.

Roblox should formulate a completely new strategy to let users have cooler usernames, if other options are too complex this is not a needed update. Theres a lot of other things that need to be worked on this plataform especially the catalog and game page.

Did you even check the safeguards in place?

Players in the Players service will still keep their Names, so I’m sure you can still run game:GetService("Players").PlayerUsernameHere:Kick().

I’d feel better about this if identification icons from the leaderboard showed up in the default chat UI as well.

For example, as the creator of a game, I get a little badge next to my name in the leaderboard list:

But this icon is unfortunately nowhere to be seen when chatting:

I notice that a lot of games tend to hide the default leaderboard but keep the default chat, so something as small as this would be pretty useful.

You still cannot selfguard everything otherwise this updates useless.

Of course you can’t selfguard everything, hence:

The whole point of DisplayNames is to allow multiple people with the same name, so making sure you can’t make them equal to any username is unrealistic and self-defeating.

I wonder how this will work regarding impersonation and whatever. I do like this feature but it feels really off for some reason. Its probably because I’ve been on this platform for almost 7 years and ive always been used to the classic usernames/

So this update is not useful then. It’s just gonna cause more harm than good so why bring it? Updates are supposed to improve the players experience not worsen it.

Are you sure you know what a dox is, no offense?

I don’t see how it worsens it? It brings millions of names back to the table.

This is terrible, you should’ve at least did a poll. this opens a whole new window for impersonation to begin, you should at least make it so others can’t make it the same as someone’s username.

I’m hoping that it will be made very obvious when somebody is using a display name, like a simple text indicator. I fear people may use this to take advantage of other users (especially younger users). Otherwise, I’m very excited and can’t wait to be able to use cool this new feature.
