I would say the exact opposite, people could now use general names. This could even include their REAL LIFE names, which we don’t want.
I am not sure if this was already mentioned somewhere (as there are a lot of replies) but you should make it, so you can’t use usernames of popular Roblox content creators like Flamingo, KonekoKitten etc.
That would prevent malicious impersonation of those popular people.
That is a problem then. Roblox should focus on security because people can be inappropriate and weird with it.
This feature should be limited for the following reasons :
- Impersonation
- Verification
- Losing the feature’s value if made available to everyone
Oh hello display names! Nice to meet you.
This update needs: If someone impersonate you, You can request to Support - Roblox to reset his “Display Name” to Reset(UserID) or His Nickname.
So, I see a lot of people mentioning the same problem; being impersonation. Honestly, yes, it’s dangerous, but what about a verification system by Roblox. Once you have a verified account, nobody will be able to change their display names to your official one.
Applications for verified username would be limited to people who are known for developing, content creating, contributing to the community, etc. Set up a requirement for verification. Like 5.000 followers, or have like 100.000 members in your group.
Would solve the impersonation problem.
Then again, it’s only a suggestion, but I see no reason to be upset about this change.
doesnt seem like a very good idea in my openion but if this is being added you may wanna make the famous devs and yts have a verified mark and charge some amount of robux (maybe like 10 -15 per time and only allowed once in a weak )to prevent misuse of this system and to reduce bots
I understand the concerns about impersonation, but for me this is amazing, it eases the pain of my _YT
As much as this is an exciting feature which a lot of us anticipate, i have concerns that a few people will abuse it to impersonate other personalities/people.
As for the good side, it will help eliminate random numbers from player’s usernames and also benefit people who like to roleplay.
Question : Will we be able to search players via their display name?
Impersonation is a huge problem with this update. As much as everyone is focusing on big youtubers and developers being victims of impersonation, what about the everyday user? I’m in communities where we rely strongly on evidence for the purpose of moderation. Already the faking of evidence, such as screenshots of people’s chats, is fairly common, in fact I’ve been a victim of this. Allowing users to set a display name only makes this process easier, and I very much doubt any safeguards can be put in place to protect little-known roblox players.
This is a cool feature and all but I feel like this can be abused for impersonation and stuff like that
I know that, I was just wondering if the “Change Username” feature will be removed because of it; most people would likely be changing their Display Names for free instead of spending the 1000 robux to change their username.
Where can I change my display name?
this can turn out pretty bad, but still can’t wait
you probably don’t have the ability to change it yet.
For clarification, say I have some really poorly thought out script that goes “game.Workspace.Map”- will display name take the character model’s name? Say someone goes around changing their display name to “Map” and messing with scripts this way. Is that possible?
After this has been rolled out for everyone, will users still be able to change their actual “username” instead of only the display name?
Data Store Service and any decent admin module would disagree with your statement.
im assuming 7 days is just arbitrary and exists to prevent abuse of changing the display name
i think thats the lowest theyre going to go timewise
