great update, BUT this can be used for scamming and kids who dont know this feature and wont see the “@” will get scammed really really easily and i can see millions of people getting scammed daily because of this

No, The Display Name is just a property of a Humanoid
This update is great! Only problem - Impersonation I think as well as blacklisting bad words, I think youtubers usernames/channel names should also be blacklisted so there isn’t any impersonation. I think this would make the update an amazing update.
I think I can get with the idea but Impersonation. But I have an idea. What if you can make the Display names a different color than Usernames, like green. Then it would be easy to differentiate Usernames with Display names.

I have a friend who had registered with a username with a typo, and he always wanted to change it ever since he noticed it but he couldn’t because the name without the typo was taken after he had registered and before he noticed the typo. I asked him about this update, and he said he is very glad that there is finally a way to fix that typo. That’s all I have to say.

I, unlike a lot of you people really look forward to this update. Gone is the times when we have to spend 10$ on a simple name change, and goodbye to the dasfafadggaddgs1432525 names (hopefully).

Firstly, this is a really good feature, and I know a lot of players who have asked for certain names instead of having numbers will help them so they can still look cool as ever. I can’t wait to sue the display name “Spear”. Anyways, I think there are some problems which I believe should be noticed.
- Firstly, did impersonation come up at all in this idea thought? I can see people going into games as ROBLOX or Denis or FLAMINGO. I hope the verification filter will filter this out?
- If everyone in a game is called “James” for example, I don’t think 10 “James”'s in chat would be helpful. Could there be a way to maybe click an option and the chat would look like this:
James (theCoolKid123) : (message)
James (mrrobloxguy1234) : (message)
Instead of it looking like:
James: message
James : message
Like in Discord, the Developer Mode let’s us get this info.

This sound like a great update, but the only thing that might be a bad thing is impersonation. To fix this my suggestion would be a system where you can apply to get your username filtered when it is entered as a display name. So you can apply and mods will review your account to see how relevant you are. And if you are relevant enough that people might impersonate you when you try to change your display name to that it would get filtered. For this system there would be real moderators checking it(not bot moderators) So we can completely be sure of the decision they make. This would stop impersonation though display names and stop scamming.

The Source engine has a way of handling people with the same name. In the Source engine, the engine numbers duplicate names one by one in order of when they joined the server like this: “(1)James”, “(2)James”
A friendlier (and cleaner) way of doing this would be your suggestion. Potentially, you could make it only show their “real name” if there are multiple James in the server.

I’m hoping this also comes with an update to the filter, as I’ve seen countless inappropriate usernames - I wouldn’t be surprised if people start misusing this feature in order to display bypassed content such as bad language.
How can I stop people impersonating me? If the content I create on Roblox is affiliated with my Username then I don’t want other users to be able to use this as their Display Name.
How will moderators for my game ban users with an inappropriate display name if they can’t see their normal username?
Will there be an easy way to disable this in my games without needing to write code?
How will you stop children under 13 from entering personally identifiable information such as their real name?
How will the report abuse feature work if you can’t see their username from within the game?
Do you plan on removing the ability to change usernames?
To me, this just seems like you’ve taken a popular feature from Role Playing games and attempted to introduce it on a platform-wide scale, essentially forcing it on every single game & developer.

I believe there will be scams. Like what about if kids name their self Roblox and start saying “Your password for Robux”. That kinda scam.

The last thing we need is more scams on the platform. Impersonation, external links in the username scam sites.
Overall, this completely defeats the purpose of name changing in the first place. It feels like more of an accomplishment when you change your name, as I’m sure you’re aware it is a bit expensive. Now we can do this unlimited times, for free and I just feel that it’s sort of unfair to those who spent hundreds of USD to change your name.
The value of name-changing is what I’m most upset about. I absolutely disagree with the update.

That’s way too long, and even then it wouldn’t fix the problems with impersonation and inappropriate names.

It’s nice to finally see this in roblox. Honestly been waiting for this feature for a long time and I can’t wait to be able to use it.
Looking at display names from another perspective, Yes it will cause the problems you listed. Since this was being worked on and thought out about by ROBLOX Admins and developers, they probably have a plan to moderate all of this. if you are worried about it meaning spending robux to change your username was a waste, it really doesn’t since Usernames will still be an in game option forever so those people will keep their unique usernames they made and changed.
Yes I’m aware, but 3 months is way too long anyways. 1 week is fine as is.
It still completely defeats the value of username changes, if it is free to change your ‘display name’ which serves the same purpose.
As for the plan you mentioned, none is clearly stated here.
We can keep our normal username, yes, but that doesn’t change that someone could be using the exact same name but via display name.
Update after update, Roblox keeps annoying me with these useless updates that create even more problems such as the scamming / impersonation.
