half+half+half =bad math
Yeah this update needs work. Maybe a way to register for verification so nobody gets impersonated.
Or if the player is @insertnamehereROBLOXIMPERSONATOR581!! that would be easier to spot at least.
Can you script that?
like adding a @ in front of it?
edit this was a reply to someone, didn’t go through as one
The DisplayName will only apply itself to the property of Humanoid called DisplayName. The player’s actual Character will just be called by their “real” username.
Old games will not break but they will still call you by your “real” username because all old games use player.Name
instead of player.DisplayName
. I am sure that this feature was added to compromise for getting rid of the black market for old accounts with rare username, without deleting and releasing those accounts’ real usernames.
For me, it should add a feature that if you hover a display name, it show you a bubble with his username on
Also, players can easily copy youtuber’s name with this like Renleaf, MrFlimFlam, … ans we need add a thing that if the display name is the same of a username of an roblox player, it will be moderated
Completely agree. Only benefit is scams & impersonation; which I’d hardly call a ‘benefit.’
Also, if someone impersonate a youtuber and harass others, a moderator can be confused and he will ban the youtuber
Exemple : If someone impersonate Renleaf and harass in this game, there is a probability that the real Renleaf can be banned
I rate this update 3/10 because it brings impersonation easier
Using the new Display Name validation endpoint you can see that names like this are allowed! All of your examples I have tested out and all of them are valid. You simply cannot use periods, spaces, and things like that… which I still find odd, but at least we have this.
Also, this feature is not safe, players can change display name of others player
I don’t really like this update because of low security
I think this is a useful feature. A while back, I wanted to rename my account to a name that I identify more as online, however the name was used by a player who literally made the name and never logged in since the day of account creation…
I do think this is a good idea if it’s done correctly. Roblox really needs to make sure that usernames are visible in-game with your display name. My mock-up here (Thanks to Roblox CoreGui altering in Roblox Studio) looks a little clunky in the playlist, but it works as a possibility.

I can’t wait! Ima love this update when it comes out, it seems like they’re moderating it good and looking for flaws but there are some flaws other users pointed out so i won’t make another post calling them out since there are like a million posts pointing them out, when this is finally out I know what my display name will be!
no my @ will not be @CrAperture >:(
I think they’d have a moderation system for that, if its impersonating and admin that is, but if its impersonating a YouTuber then the YouTuber can simply show their fans their real @ in a video.
Amazing idea; still it isn’t enough to stop the increase of scams.
You keep saying this, but no matter what Roblox does with Display Names, any implementation of it will have scam attempts increase. The best course of action is to promote account safety to the absolute maximum. Roblox could even give a pop-up to every user on the website announcing to keep your account safe with this new update being released.
The best course of action that Roblox can do with Display Names (because I personally think they shouldn’t can this at all, this is such a good idea if they don’t want old accounts to be gotten rid of) is to keep promoting account security and warn people of the changes to player names.
The problem is, for phone users, they can’t see the in-game leaderboard. Since usernames can only be shown via that, phone users could get scammed. It’s an awesome update, but I’m concerned for phone users.
(ROBLOX, I hate the CAPTCHA, it’s so hard)
yeah its a good idea but there are contros like someone can “be” an other player and as example SCAM someone
there can be false accuses for like hacking
it depends, like if you put the dpi in developer settings ( android) to 500 you can see it
yeah, i like if roblox implement it, it will be secure if it can be in the chat but it will be super LONG if the player name is long
Yes I agree, their are many flaws with the design, with impersonation and such.
The risk of impersonation is always there, but I think this is a good update overall. It’s essentially just a nickname over an existing username. There are plenty of ways to reduce the possibility and effectiveness of impersonation. The @ symbol for one, profile inspections showing their actual username, custom UI that shows a miniature tag of their username under their display name, etc.
