I think this is a good idea not gonna lie. I always like changing my name in for Example steam and Discord.

Hey just a question, will the display username only show in-game or on the website as well?
In-game only i bielive to prevent scams
On your profile it will show your display name and username (the username has a @)
In-game it will only show the display name above the players head but you can know that player’s username by going to the leaderboard and finding the player’s display name click it and there should be the username with a @ there just like on the profile

It will be coming in a few months, if this is rolled out the post should be updated.

Yeah, exactly. Some list would only benefit a small amount of people, this doesn’t seem like the solution to impersonation that we need.

Interesting thought about the chat tag colour. This would be a good feature, and it seems like a fairly reasonable time to implement it. I would probably change my name tag as it’s been stuck at purple ever since the last time I changed my username.
You should not be able to use other’s username as your display name, but there is a problem. For example, I have an old account named NORXND and I would wish to use this as my display name. Maybe, for example, you could “lock” your username. (this should be by default and you just will be able to turn it off)

No, that completely ruins it as most usernames people are going for are old and the users haven’t visited roblox in 13 years most of the time.

Because then everyone would do it and the whole thing would be pointless.
When are where did you hear this? I never once heard anything about hashtags next to names like discord.
The way they said it was going to be was there was going to be:
Display Name
@Username
I think that as long as you can see a persons username with their display name it should be fine, still some people may be tricked. Not sure. It is a positive thing in some ways and negative in some ways at the same time.
Yes! Finally a feature that involves display names, I’ve been waiting on this one for quite a while and didn’t expect Roblox to actually release this. We all know that it currently costs 1,000 robux to change username… -but this seems to be a positive alternative so that everyone can display their desired “display name.” Now there are a couple of issues with this:
- High profile developers will be imitated so their should be a filter for that
-Using Player.DisplayName instead of Player.Name can cause a ton of bugs for example if I named myself Builderman as my Player.DisplayName, and I were to be in the same game as Builderman, then that could definitely cause confusion in the community, even worse breaking usernames
-It should filter out the Roblox staff members so that you cannot choose those names as your display name… maybe developers who are well known should receive an “Authentic” badge of some type so the option to imitate developers won’t be an issue

To be honest these updates are getting pretty crazy. In my solid opinion ROBLOX should move away from updates like these, this risks impersonation and it’s moving away from the creativity of ROBLOX. If this new update rolls out, ROBLOX will become more like Twitter, and move away from it standing out. Another new issue that will occur is when people start impersonating well known people. Users will not become unique anymore (because the 2 same user block will not be there anymore). This is just my recollection of it but I strongly disagree with this update coming out. It will change the platform completely and make it more complicated than it should be.

There are MAJOR issues with this! It’s just asking for players to be impersonated/tricked, I know I’d not be too happy if I saw someone masquerading around as myself. Roblox, you need to stop this feature dead in its tracks, do not let this go live.

I like this idea, but I still think that the feature either needs a total rework or axing. This is just asking for harassment and bullying, scamming, impersonation, all sorts of nasty stuff.
