I believe that is because Display Names are not out yet, so it will not work.
If you had a display name, I’m pretty sure you’ll forever have one. So I think the script is pretty useful.
This feature is waaaaay ahead of its time. Maybe amp up roblox moderation system before anything.

The moderation is still bad, it needs more improvement before this can get rolled out.
I kind of agree with this, but I also see things that I don’t like.
I like the fact that I can name my alts to my main account and even don’t have to think about a name without it being taken, but the bad thing some people can pretend to be my main account and go harass my friends so that they will go hate me because the impersonators put in my username as display names and pretend to be me, I will know who is fake and who is real, but some of my friends are younger and probably don’t know if someone is using display names or that it is actually me.
I don’t think there’s a official release date, instead of a exact date they slowly will roll it out for certain users / countries in the next months.
I tried it out with the VPN method when I was available for the last day (18-19 February 2021) and names like ROBLOX will result in it saying Display Name not appropriate for Roblox. I guess builderman and the popular YouTubers will be blacklisted too.
Interesting. Do you know if beta program members should be getting this? I’m in the program and I don’t have it.
I don’t think beta program members would get it more early than other people, but I can be wrong, maybe they release it slightly earlier than for non beta program members
Even they do they still have different usernames, if a developer wants someone to not have a display name they could simply just add a script to make the display name the username, which isn’t hard at all. And on the website, they already have something in place which quite literally puts the username right below the display name. I don’t see any real way for exploiters or generally anyone to scam someone, etc. Either they get found out in-game or on the website. Simple. You guys act like they would put in something that could ruin their game without checking for any way for it be used maliciously.

I believe this update will have its ups and downs, it’ll bring in a pretty big impersonation issue, I’ve already seen some people impersonate others by using a VPN to get display names early. On the bright side, this update will be great for people who wish to have a shorter, non taken name.

That are my thoughts too, I’m afraid that if someone impersonates my main account and goes harass my friends, I will lose my friends or they will think I will was doing it and then harass me back. But for the other sides this display names update is pretty nice and cool thing.

My difficulty chart is the only that use display names, it only remain the player list to update
I played lot others and there are no display name
I don’t think your friends are going to fall for that, they can check the playerlist
Have you forgotten about permissions? I saw somebody try and disable display names but had a permission error/warning.

I cba to look for my response but if I can remember, I was the one saying its not that bad
I personaly like this update because I can finally my username instead of sniping random usernames, I hope they have good non broken moderation system, can’t wait for the update.

You responded to the wrong user I think.
This isn’t as rare as a scenario as you think. Players are finding ways all the time to bypass the chat filter. Also, you have to know which player it is in the first place in order to use the correct user id so this wouldn’t work.
