Actually hold on a minute, I changed my display name on roblox to Nexus and it haven’t changed here, this problem might be on roblox’s end when I think about it.

This is useful and all (basically another nickname for a user)
But aren’t we gonna talk about impersonation and other problems?
Examples are:
Yter’s/Dev’s names being used as display names by 13384839 people. Using their name to trick others or making them look bad in a way by being mean
Bypassing the filter (A thing that’s been happening for a long time)
Joke display names causing that user to get a warning or ban (Unless it actually breaks the tos)
We need a system for people to not get confused on who is the real person (Simple solution is looking at their @ to check they’re legit)
Instead of looking at the leaderboard or the player list menu

I agree with @InocuIar. I think putting numbers and x, z s too much in a display name should be restricted.

This was a biggest mistake. Now everywhere is a mess about them. People impersonating themselves as other people. Not only youtuber, but also usual players. Filters also work wrong. Everyone’s names become spam-words like “sus” “amogus” and other odd names. You can’t recognize your friend and by mistake can unfriend them in game or somewhere. Roblox tries to be a social media, but making platform social media is a disaster.

I agree, but creativity-wise, I think this is pretty fun, and you don’t have to pay a thousand Robux to change your name. It’s also very easy to spot impersonators. I think overall this was a good update but has flaws.

Hey there, I love the update, but I have been wondering this, why are there so many “unsupported characters”? I would love to have spaces or something like - or ? or something like that in my display name, and since display names have nothing to do with passwords and such, and I am wondering why this is?

Controversial. It’s good when you have a long nickname like: “JackLovesCats5534” and you can put username like just “Jack”. But most of people use it for impersonating and stupid usernames. It’s very annoying when you join game and see a lot of people using names like “Sus”, “YoUr MoM” and other unfunny ones. Also I get very confusing, because a lot of people on server use same display names and it makes communicating harder. I don’t think Roblox need display usernames. Because in twitter, instagramm etc we talk wiht people and see their pfps and just calmly talking. While in Roblox you can play in some shooter game and you will have no time to think which one of guys with same display names wrote message. Trying to copy social medias to Roblox is really odd, Roblox is a platform and being rip-off of social medias will only make platform worse. It’s just my opinion on that.

So I’ve seen recently Roblox released the display name’s to everyone, and now here’s the problem with this. I’ve seen kid’s using there first & last name or just their first name as there display name, but yet when you sign up, you shouldn’t use your first or last name, or both I’m seeing quite a few thing’s that is wrong with this future, and honestly I suggest they remove this future, as impersonation’s have went completely sky high, and now kid’s are getting scammed more crazier than ever.

So, I’ve been trying to change my display name today, but I can’t put anything into the box. Everything I put in is “inappropriate for Roblox”. The only things I can put in are really random things. Like “iii” and “rrr”. Nothing else. It’s really annoying.
Edit: Finally found something that works, but when I click save, it changes back to the old one.

I’m probably misunderstanding you, but that defeats the entire purpose of display names. If your display names can only be your username, the feature may as well not exist.

From my point of view, certainly the display name practically follows the same rules as the usernames, that is to say, not even in the display name you can’t use emojis, spaces, hyphens, etc, minimum they should also allow the use of non-alphanumeric characters, such as Japanese characters or another language that does not use non-alphanumeric characters
I like this change very much, as it’s like having a nickname. I can see how it could cause impersonation to popular people, so at the same time, I don’t like it. What do you guys think? It could be a way of changing your username for free as well, I guess.
