Even if you know someone’s username, accessing their profile is sometimes impossible with the tools Roblox provides, because their valid username will be changed into tags when you attempt to search it.
This is extremely annoying. Same applies to games and catalog items of course, but it happens most often with users.
To play devil’s advocate against my own argument I can think of one reason to filter search text: If someone wants to find the dirty stuff on Roblox, they can search a bad word that would definitely be filtered and find things with names that contain that word but aren’t filtered due to filter quirks. If “brick” was a bad word, a game named “squishybricks” that gets past the filter would probably not be the kind of game you want people playing.
The reason it’s possible to search up exactly the same text that someone got through the filter when naming something, but have your search filtered, is because the filter changes. What once once unfiltered is now filtered.
There are two ways to solve the problem in this thread.
One, is to simply not filter searches. This removes all hassle for the user, but as I said, can be misused. So, it gives the best improvement, but has a downside.
The other is to still filter searches, but show any exact matches so that people can still find stuff if they already know what they’re looking for. The benefit is almost as good since it solves the main issue, and the solution has no downside.
