Recently, I have been developing a game called The Investigation , and I would like to hear some feedback on the idea itself, since it is not released. I have had a very long break on the development for this game because of issues with development team and lack of creative ideas.
Game description:
You and 11 other fellow prestige detectives have been chosen by the FIB to attend the impossible case of murder mystery. It has been rumored that one of you might be a traitor or an infiltrator. As you work together to solve a series of challenging clues and punishing mistakes, you must uncover the identity of the killer in your midst before it’s too late. Will you be able to identify the guilty parties and bring them to justice, or will you fall victim?
My reason for making this game.
I got bored of generic rblx games, and then I began to think about what kind of game I would like to play myself. So I decided to make a detective game. I have seen many similar games, but none to the extend I want to make my game, with the blend of detective theme and social deduction.
UI
I never really liked the idea of many different UIs on your screen, the plan for this game is to make everything as interactive as possible, and maintain as little UI on the screen as possible. So for that every UI, I want is done.
Community
I bring my community into the development of the game, and let them vote on which features to add, and let them come with suggestions. I use my community to let them do things I have not thought of.
Theme
I want the game to feel dramatic, I want the feel not to feel too robloxian. I want it to feel like depth similar to many horror games. But I do not really know how to create this vibe and feel.
Lack of ideas
As of now, I want to create a medium sized map with many hidden concepts such as guns and clues in hiding, and many different tasks. But I lack the ideas for maps and how to use these different conceps I have for also tasks like these:
- Search for Evidence: like dropped notes between the murders
- Fix security cameras
- Fix power grid: fix lights
- Fix radio tower: when broken detectives can’t use their walkie talkies to communicate far away
- Find hidden key for hidden room
- Transport evidence to a safe room where the voting also is held
- Check names of the detectives: killers can add false ones, remove some, and draw over names
- Detectives collect items like fingerprints, hair samples, or blood stains to match with suspects.
- Detectives need to repair the walkie talkies if they break
- Disarm of traps: killers can place simple traps
- Locate hidden room: killers can kidnap detectives instead of killing them and trap them inside there
- (Find hidden gun)
These pure ideas don’t seem like enough to just make and the game will feel finished, anyone that got any suggestions? I really need someone with creative ideas, and or a builder.
Matchmaking
I’ve been thinking a lot about how I want to make my matchmaking system, if I want to limit the matchmaking to server only or make it global wide server. And here are the things I went over, tell me what you think!:
Server Matchmaking (Your game queue is limited to just your server)
Matches players only within the same server, keeping it simple and fast but with limited player options.
– Limited player pool
++ Easier to get in a game with friends (if the game becomes big)
++More queue time
++Less latency
Global Queue Matchmaking (When you queue up, you get in a match that spans with players from all servers)
Uses a shared queue across all servers, allowing faster, balanced matches
++ Less queue time/big player pool
++ Balanced matchmaking (if level/elo system is ever introduced)
– People from everywhere (language problem)
– Difficulty with getting in a game with friends (Without custom server gamepass)
If you want to know more about game/concept, please let me know.
