Studio on mac tremendously laggy

Maybe Roblox needs to optimize their software for macOS Big Sur? If so, I’m shocked that they’ve taken this long.

I did a bit more research and looked into it some more myself with other applications and stuff. Turns out things like LibreOffice have been literally nerfed on Big Sur getting about 1-2fps and some other applications which don’t stick to the normal SwiftUI/Cocoa. It also ends up putting all the performance on the kernel? I mean its not OSX any more its macOS 11 which is completely new tbh

LibreOffice is a productivity suite, not a video game.

Until the issue can be resolved, I made a temporary replacement for the scripting editor. It’s not perfect, but it does get the job done.

This is not intended to replace the scripting editor entirely, only as a temporary replacement until the issue can be resolved.

Does it have all of the features of the native script editor? What does it look like?

Could you elaborate on the issue?

This comment is for everyone in general…

I highly suggest not updating your Mac to Big Sur if you haven’t already.

Most professional businesses that use Mac a majority of the time have told their employees not to update their computers to Big Sur because Apple needs to work out many kinks, and updating them could potentially mess up their work.

I, myself tried updating my mac to Big Sur, but never finished due to lack of storage. I did notice after that, studio started crashing very easily.

I think that if you have updated to Big Sur, you’ll have to live with any of the crashes/bugs that come your way. As far as I know, this isn’t Roblox’s fault.

This is definitely Roblox’s fault.

They are well known for providing poor support for the macOS version of Roblox Studio. These kinds of issues date back to macOS High Sierra.

As for macOS Big Sur being buggy, Apple has had many months to work out the kinks. They’ve already released quite a few updates that fixed loads of issues. It is a stable experience.

Two major updates and three minor updates in…

I recently bought a new m1 MacBook Air and I have noticed that roblox is a bit slower than other programs. Ive tested unity along side roblox studio and studio is considerably slower on Mac. I don’t have any of the freezing issues you have, albeit I have a newer MacBook and 16gb of RAM. Roblox should fix this issue.

Just noticed this problem on my M1 MacBook Pro con 16 GB RAM. This did not always happen for me. Scripting is god awful and takes seconds to type. Using edit quality 21 really smooth, just scripting is a big problem for me.

So basically I go to file and publish the game. The console says published successfully. Then, i play my game (using the website because on studio playtest takes like 5 min). There are absolutely no changes.

Roblox Studio is running under Rosetta 2 because it isn’t natively optimized for Apple Silicon yet. As a result, you may experience issues with performance and stability.

Same reply as above.

That seems like an unrelated bug.

Unity isn’t optimised for the M1 chips but yet it is faster than studio.

It’s been a while and the problem still isn’t fixed. When I try to type while I’m inside of a script it takes like 3-4 seconds before it responds.

I had that problem a while back. Switching to a new user on my mac and then downloading studio on that other user fixed the problem for me.

That seems to only serve as a temporary solution.

Except Unity actually cares about optimizing their software for macOS.

oh I have a version of unity that has to run of Rosetta2

Why not download the version that runs natively on Apple Silicon?

I recently stared having issues with opening any Roblox game on my MacBook (not sure if this happens only on macOS) and this continued for 2 weeks now showing me a grey screen constantly loading.I tried everything from uninstalling Studio or just deleting my preferences file. I could have just made a new post but since I don’t post anything on DevForum I don’t have permission to do one in this category yet. I’m not sure if other people experience this too since the majority has or had issues with the script editor but if there could be any fix I decided to write this comment.
