Studio refuses to open

I keep getting this error when trying to open Studio.

I can’t even reinstall it because the same error appears when I click “uninstall”.
EDIT: Uninstalled by deleting AppData folders. Reinstalling doesn’t work because RobloxStudioLauncherBeta.exe produces the same error:

What directory is ROBLOX installed to so I can delete them manually? (I checked Program Files and App data but couldn’t find anything)

EDIT: Steps I’ve now tried

 • Ran RobloxStudioLauncherBeta in Windows 8 compatibility mode
 • Restarted router multiple times
 • Restarted PC multiple times
 • Safe Mode with Networking
 • Uninstalling avast (not just disabling)
 • Turning off all firewalls
 • Allowing RobloxStudioLauncherBeta.exe through the firewall when its on
 • Turning my network from public to private.

Check your internet connection, I usually have the same error when my router is freaking out.

I have no reason to believe my internet is playing up, I tried before posting this as well as after and it still refuses to work

Tried what? Are you using Wi-Fi? If yes, did you restart it properly?

AppData/Local/Roblox/Versions/whatever version is newest

Aha, I was looking in the wrong place. (I was in %appdata% aka Roaming)
After deleting all the files I could find I tried to reinstall Studio but I continued to get the same error when running RobloxStudioLauncherBeta.exe

Woops, I meant I tried opening studio, and as I posted this I don’t see why it could be a wifi problem (as my internet appears to be working fine).
Not only that but it was happening yesterday too and my wifi has been restarted since.

You tried disabling your anti-virus?

I hadn’t until just now, no change. I still can’t install it :sob:

Restart PC and disable antivirus before launching studio.

I said it may be an internet issue as I get the exact same error when:
my router is freaking out
######EDIT: I’m aware that it may not be the case if you can use internet without any issues.

I’ve restarted my PC serveral times, and my router (I still fail to see why a router freaking out would mean Studio can’t start but I can post here, watch YouTube, listen to Spotify etc etc)
The problem persists.

This problem is still persisting today. Am I the only one? :frowning:

Today taken the following steps to no avail:

 • Ran RobloxStudioLauncherBeta in Windows 8 compatibility mode
 • Fully disabled all anti-viruses
 • Disabled firewall
 • Restarted router multiple times
 • Restarted PC multiple times

There is a thread on the main forums which is being bumped to the front page of Technical Issues quite a lot https://forum.roblox.com/Forum/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=176938879&PageIndex=13

Can you access the url normally in your browser? If not, the problem is probably not on roblox’s end and you should try clearing your dns cache (type “ipconfig /flushdns” in cmd prompt) or trying out google’s public dns in case yours is derping out.

Yeah I can access that URL

version-189338d85be04ac5

but I flushed the cache anyway and it had no effect. I’m still getting the error when trying to install Studio.

Additional steps I’ve now tried:

 • Safe Mode with Networking
 • Uninstalling avast (not just disabling)
 • Turning off all firewalls
 • Allowing RobloxStudioLauncherBeta.exe through the firewall when its on
 • Turning my network from public to private.

All without success.

 • Are you doing anything to your DNS configuration?
 • Can you send your bootstrapper logs? (Should be in the %TEMP% folder, files should be from recent install dates and named RBX-*.log)

Not that I know of,

Here are the two most recent

and a third which I believe was from a time when Studio launched properly

From the logs I clearly can see that there is no access to any of ROBLOX domains, including roblox.com. Moreover, I see that a google domain is also unreachable. I think one or the combination of the following is happening:

 • ROBLOX application is blocked by antivirus or malware protection
 • ROBLOX application is blocked by parental controls
 • ROBLOX application is blocked by a firewall. The last one can be tricky is you may have a conflict between Windows firewall and antivirus firewall

I’ve tried disabling everything before and it makes no difference.
Here is the latest log with all anti-virus and all firewalls disabled. I’m not sure if there would be any difference

Maybe the only option is to reset my entire PC :confounded:

Check proxy settings in Control Panel, and also check that you don’t have HTTP_PROXY environment variable set.
