Studio Tweaks - Disable selection box, disable UI Editor, anchor new parts, show selection faces, and more

The selection box tends to make transparent objects fully transparent.

Like let’s say if i make a parts transparency 0.2 and turn on selection box replacement and select the part, then the part will go fully transparent.

Added a dynamically resizing hover box. If you get closer, it becomes less annoying.

Inspired by @AstroCode’s plugin.

Added a feature to visualize Welds and other JointInstances parallel to the way WeldConstraints can be visualized.

This feature is a little bit more involved than others, please let me know reproduction steps if you find a way to break it.

Added settings to turn off the UI editor, or just turn off the yellow overlay. The dragging function cannot be turned off.

As usual, let me know if you can break it.
Known issues:

  • Reloading (e.g. updating) the plugin sometimes doesn’t re-enable the UI Editor if it was disabled.

I posted this 4 days ago and you added this to your plugin 4 days ago. https://twitter.com/AstroCodeRblx/status/1355755529566617600?s=20

Obviously I don’t have a patent on shrinking the hover box, and I use your plugin daily, but it would have been cool if you asked first.

Honestly it was on my to-do list to ask and then slip your name in here somewhere but it got away from me while I was working on actually implementing the feature. Sorry about that. Really appreciate you finding out that this element is in an accessible location in Studio.

That’s understandable, no hard feelings. I’m glad that it’s in your tool because I’ll probably use it over mine for the fact that it’s integrated with a bunch more stuff. :stuck_out_tongue:

Also I see that you added my name. I appreciate it!

Yeah, I was really excited to get it in here since it synergizes really well with the selection box override in this plugin. I was using it to work on character accessories and the hover box was left behind still getting in my way while the selection box was politely out of the way.

Cheers, sorry for the mishap.

pretty based of you

i’m probably going to make a list of things that use janitor, would you want me to add you to it?

I’ve actually ended up very addicted to Janitor, feel free. I’m using it in my game as well. Be gentle looking at my code, this plugin architecture is starting to get out of control again and I need to restructure it lol.

You have been added

Just noticed you’re also using it to the full extent, this is definitely a good example of it.

For some reason, the welds always are automatically on and I need to disable them every time I open studio.

Should be fixed now, just an oversight.

Updated the icons to use a “pressed-in” style to hopefully improve enabled/disabled clarity.

I also happen to use Janitor in my FPS game. Turns out, it’s based on RoStrap, but wit more features and editor (Roblox plugin) support.

Corrected placement locations for JointInstances, they are no longer origin-to-origin, but correctly connect at offset points instead.

Oh lord nice job producing this.

@PeZsmistic I just came up with a new feature idea. Can you also have the texture boxes decrease in size when selecting them? It would really help me adjust my textures in small builds.
