SunRaysEffect attachable for parts

Pretty simple, an ability to attach SunRaysEffect on parts. It would work in the same way as it works in Lighting, but in this case it would be put in parts.

Unfortunately this feature is currently filed under the rare “we could actually ship it but have decided not to.”

Oh…
Well, he told “not right now”, but hey, maybe in future!

I can understand why. They wouldn’t want their games to look too good, after all.

Please drop the attitude, this is seriously annoying.

Scaling the effect to multiple parts without performance implications is non-trivial which is why we haven’t shipped this effect with the first post-processing effect batch. Given sufficient demand we could reconsider this although I feel like there are things that are higher bang for the buck.

I guess I really dont understand what this effect would do…
Would it like… work on lightsources other than the sun?? Can you draw me an example? I might just be dumb but I really dont get it. I feel like this would be something you’d add for other light sources since… thats where the rays would be coming from?

Wait is this what you mean - http://i.imgur.com/tg5Q1dq.png
Why wouldnt this be a lightsource thing rather than a part thing?

Well, imagine a light bulb in ROBLOX. That feature would allow us to put SunRaysEffect on the light bulb so it gives the same shining effect as it gives an effect on the sun right now. Restricting to the bulb surface only
Going that way, the name SunRaysEffect should be named just RaysEffect or LightRaysEffect as it wouldn’t affect only the sun anymore.

This could make a really nice window effect with light streaming through.

I would use it for flashbangs, grenades, muzzle flash, and vehicle headlights.

It’d look AMAZING. Current lighting is slow, unresponsive, bulky, and limited. It works great for most buildings but not so much for what I need.

You can do this with current SunRaysEffect :stuck_out_tongue:

Sorry I didn’t make myself clear.

It was in the RBXDev offices and I couldn’t add SunRays to the actual game, so it would be nice having it in my room only.

Ah, so like “fake lighting”? Ye, it could work like that as well.

Yeah!

I’d appreciate an effect like this for making light shows, but I can understand the complications that zeuxcg noted.
