Terrain Tools Misbehaving

There are two issues I’m encountering when using the terrain tools:

  1. The Plane Lock/Flatten Plane tool doesn’t adjust for any elevation when on Auto, it only stays at one fixed height

  2. The Selection terrain tool is partially broken. I’m unable to click and drag my mouse to make a selection anymore.

I have attempted to uninstall/reinstall Roblox Studio, sign out/in of my account, and look online for other people possibly experiencing this issue with no success.

Expected behavior

  1. The Plane Lock/Flatten Plane tools should adjust for elevation (y-axis) on auto just the same as it does for x-axis and z-axis movement.

  2. I should be able to make a selection with the Select terrain tool by clicking and holding my left mouse button and dragging my mouse in the desired direction.

EDIT:
Found another post explaining the same issue. Staff claimed they fixed it back in 2021 but it seems this problem has somehow reappeared

EDIT 2:
Hey guys a showcase I made actually broke due to some update. I need to be able to use terrain tools in order to fix this. Otherwise, the showcase I spent a lot of time and put a lot of hard work is stuck with these issues forever. Work with me or something, please

Could you specify what you mean for this? The general idea behind the flatten tool is that from the moment you click, you lock in the plane you want to flatten your terrain to. It appears to be working fine on my end. A video of the behavior may help me understand what the issue here is.

As for selection, we made a change that makes it so you need to click and drag your mouse at least 20 pixels in order for drag to select to start working. We made this change, because users were reporting mis-clicks messing up their selection. Once you’ve started making a drag selection, you stay in that mode and can make your selection as big or as small as you want. If for whatever reason drag to select doesn’t work at all, then please let me know.

Here’s a video showing the problem with the lock plane. You can see when I click with the flatten tool, the grid becomes darker. When I’m not holding down my mouse button, the plane is still locked into a fixed position despite being set on auto.

As for the selection tool, here is a video showing the problem of that as well. The select box is always present, and usable, but clicking and dragging the cursor yields no results

What version of Roblox Studio are you using? I can’t really seem to reproduce either issue on my end.

Version 0.636.0.6360625 (64bit)

Yeah I haven’t ran into anyone who’s ran into this issue as of late either. I’m unsure if there’s really anything I can do about it?

I seem to have issues with the terrain tools aswell.
For some reason the flatten tool does not work properly.

I constantly had issues where it would create holes or mountains rather than flatten.
It seems to happen randomly but does happen a lot.

In my experience, moving the mouse from the flat surface to a hole really fast causes the issue to happen.
It looks like it constantly tries to flatten the terrain to the current height the cursor is at.

Select, copy and paste also seems to break after using it once.

bumping this since the problem is still ongoing. i’m not able to effectively do any terrain work with this bug. Leaving this problem unresolved won’t fix what’s wrong

Hi!
Thanks for the report!

The Plane Lock/Flatten Plane tool doesn’t adjust for any elevation when on Auto, it only stays at one fixed height
This was fixed.

The Selection terrain tool is partially broken. I’m unable to click and drag my mouse to make a selection anymore.
This is currently working as expected and we are not planning current changes to the tool.
