The "Place" asset type should be renamed

I am making this thread on a different topic than the recently posted Games vs places merge. This does not go over the same ideas presented.

It was once difficult to determine the difference from Games vs. Places for me, and some newer developers I have asked have also had trouble with the terms. I feel that a more appropriate name for “Place” would be “Level” so that not only is the the intended usage (i.e. TeleportService) is more evident, but it makes organizing your game much easier since you already know that places are supposed to behave like levels in a game. Using the term “places” doesn’t make much sense in the scope that they are used for, it’s an odd word to use.

Could also use “Scene”

Hm. You could but a scene would be more like a cutscene, at least that’s how I see it. Loading a new place for that wouldn’t be too normal I think.

Hm. That makes sense, yeah.

Or just refer to Games as Universes, which what they were originally and what everyone still calls them.

I love the term universe

What I’d love ROBLOX to go down marketing wise is re-exploring universes.
They haven’t really been updated since the 2014 interface, and my idea would be for them to actually give visual imagery of universes, space, etc, and making creating a universe the first thing (before creating a place) that a new player is prompted to do.

Frankly, it’s a wasted feature :frowning:
