Anyway the new “Robux” icon can make “Robux” be called “RoCoins?”
I know that many games use RoCoins and would have to switch over, but I think that “Robux” doesn’t fit the new coin-shaped logo. “Robux” can be split into two words “Ro” and “Bux”. Ro stands for ROBLOX and Bux stands for dollars, bucks, etc. This new icon looks more like a coin rather than a “Bux”. In google search, looking up Robux provides you with tons of results, one of the big results being piles of dollar bills marked with the old Robux icon. The old robux icon was something millions of players started ROBLOX with and removing it wasn’t that epic of a choice. Even though you removed the old icon, ROBLOX’s millions of players who were around when the old icon existed will not be able to adapt to the new logo without having the name changed because they remember the old robux logo.
The old robux logo was smart and proved the “Ro Bux” name was fitting for it, thus it became a fan-favorite logo and was used by millions everyday. The new “Robux” logo doesn’t fit at all whatsoever. It should be called “RoCoins”, as that fits the icons best.
Anyways, sorry for making you read all that but consider it alright?
In the continued process of making the Roblox platform kid friendly, we have decided to redesign Robux logo, to look more like a casino chip.
But seriously, I think children should know that they are dealing with real value currency (even if it is virtual). Learn to save, spend wisely, get scammed (that is important lesson too), and know how to feel being broke. They do not teach that stuff in school. Robux logo design should be reminding everyone that Robux is just like real money. Because it is. (DevEx exists after all).
In my opinion, on the top bar the icon is too far from the number of robux
It should be closer to the the number than it is to the notifications. It also says in the guidelines that the distance should be 4 pixels, but this distance is alot larger than 4 pixels
Expand on that. Sure there may be different cultures who may have different views on the symbol of $, but I know of none apart from I’d say… When self-censoring swear words.
Very true, the Dollar Symbol is very much associated with the US Dollar, but I don’t believe it’d warrant a complete overhaul of a currency symbol; as you said before, ROBLOX wants to create a market into China in partnership with Tencent, but Tencent themselves kept bucks in V-Bucks despite the word Bucks being more American than the Dollar itself… I’m also currently unaware of any games that I know of that had to redesign their currency
If ROBLOX had that strict intention to be less-americanised, they would’ve renamed ROBUX I would think as well. I don’t think this is about markets really, more about just being more individually inclusive in ROBLOX’s part. But I find this move slightly unnecessary but I do see how the R$ symbol looks rustic in comparison.
But yeah having R$ as the currency symbol is problematic outside the platform I’d agree. But personally, it would be better to have a typeable currency symbol or acronym.
I do know that that the majority of countries don’t incorporate the $ sign, however there is still a significant lot that do use it, which was my view on the topic of inclusiveness about how much of a degree the $ would really have.
I think what you meant is that $ isn’t seen as currency to people living in countries not incorporating the $ sign. But now it just feels foreign to almost-everyone.
Yeah, R$ is again, problematic in itself since it’s an already established IRL Currency, could be changed to RX$ (RXB) (RO-BUX) (ROBLOX BUCKS) instead or something.
You’re first statement makes zero sense and contradicts literally everything you’ve been saying in other people’s replies. “I do know that that the majority of countries don’t incorporate the sign, however there is still a significant lot that do use it.” So to you that majority should not be accounted for? This symbol is easy to understand to anyone around the world and fits perfectly.
You say that it should be replaced with RX$, but that still have same issues that Roblox wanted to get rid of in the first place. There is a LARGE portion of the world that Roblox is trying to expand into that doesn’t use a Latin alphabet. 3 of the top 5 spoken languages around the world use their own writing system that wouldn’t work with that but work with the new symbol.
“If ROBLOX had that strict intention to be less-americanised, they would’ve renamed ROBUX I would think as well.” They did for like an hour, it’s called bits now but they reverted the update as it’s probably not fully ready yet.
ROBLOX is expanding internationally, yes. The Dollar Symbol does and will isolate the players from those countries, but it’s the most internationally recognised symbol denoting currency, making it seen by a lot of people as valuable and familiar.
What I’m trying to say is, that they should’ve made a more familiar & ‘valuable’ design rather than something that looks like a replacement of TIX, without currency involved the design itself looks ok and has that modern aesthetic that the designers want, but as a design of currency, it would really need to change it up from it looking less like secondary currency, and more like something tied in with real currency instead.
Maybe instead of a Hexigon outer-shape, maybe a round shape or a coin-like design with a Hexagon hole in the middle?
Most currencies have coins… soo the roundness will represent a coin, whilst the hexagon will just look like a Nut piece to symbolise the platform of developers?
The majority of the Roblox playerbase being around 10-12 said so.
Most games appealing to a younger audience says so.
Expanding internationally does not mean you need or should drop influences that the company is based in. The claim other countries will feel alienated is bizarre. Really? Over a currency symbol? This takes country-identity complexes to a whole new absurd level.
Most games use the old Robux logo inside their games and it’s only going to draw confusion.
The new icon doesn’t convey that it’s currency (or that it’s “robux”) clearly, making me wonder why it’s being used on a kid’s site. Is there an advantage to having it be vague?
I personally do not like the new logo. Yes, old one was not up to date but at least it looked like a currency. It does not look like it is accociated with roblox.
That’s my opinion, after all, it’s just a logo.
Eh really? I can be nostalgic at times but I always put that aside when ROBLOX releases new features considering how this can make the platform more modern and enjoyable for new players and developers… But this icon, terrible… The current ROBLOX website design has been there for a few years now and even I for a second did not recognize that was the place on the website where robux is displayed when I first saw it. It is no way resembles robux, currency, or anything like it…
In other words, it looks like a pathetic attempt to make some random “modern” looking design off the top of your head with no context or goal that you just randomly decided “Hey! lets use this for the robux icon!”
Once again, don’t get me wrong, I am all for modernizing ROBLOX, but please… If a long time user can’t easilly recognize its purpose, how will newer members without hovering over it?
