Ticket Banded Top Hat doesn't use Banded Top Hat mesh

The Ticket Banded Top Hat sits in an uncanny spot to the rest of the Banded series. It’s not a faithful remake since the proportions and shading are way off, yet it doesn’t do anything unique to justify creating a new mesh. If you were looking for something a little more modern, you would’ve picked up the stylish Brown Tix Top Hat which was released around the same time.

While some people might’ve moved on after the disappointment, I’ve held on to some important Roblox history which I think is worth considering here. On March 24th, 2016, the Ticket Banded Top Hat released for 175K TIX (~8.5K R$)… And players who bought the Basket of Ultimate Troll (3K R$) were given Troll Top Hats. The shading wasn’t exactly the same as the originals, it was part of the Banded Top Hat family!

But that wasn’t always the plan. Just one day before, March 23rd, you could see the original design for the Troll Top Hat in the catalog. Larger, taller, sharper… Hey wait a second! That’s the mesh the Ticket Banded Top Hat uses!

The original mesh and texture can still be found over here.

Now I’ll admit, I didn’t have one hundred seventy-five thousand tickets to spend during Tixapalooza. Very few people did, considering the TBTH only sold 64 copies. With how obscure the history is, I’d love to hear what the original buyers think. Do you want to see it updated after nine years, or would you prefer it stays the way it is? Did you believe the Ticket Banded Top Hat was going to be updated to match the other Bandeds?

Expected behavior

Reach out to original Ticket Banded Top Hat owners, and ask if they prefer the current design or would like to see it remade to match the classic Banded Top Hats.

Technically the mesh of the original is broken

What’s interesting is that the same issue is showing up in my Blender pictures here. Though the Troll Top Hat isn’t perfect, it’s closer to how the Bandeds were originally shaded back at release.

This is just an acknowledgment announcement!

We’ve filed a ticket to our internal database, and we’ll follow up when we have an update!

Thanks for the report!

Thanks for reporting, and thanks for the history lesson. This might have been one of the most interesting tickets we’ve had in that sense.

It’s hard to say what the original artist intent was on the hat, as it was before most of us joined Roblox.

We’ve looked at this internally, and decided to leave it as is for now. Technically, it’s not broken. The question is more: Did the intended mesh get used? We’re going to trust the judgement of our predecessors and not make any updates.

Hi there, I’ve been playing Roblox for nearly 20 years now, and there is technically further information regarding this. The Ticket Banded Top Hat is actually apart of a hat series that Roblox has created, and there are plenty of more recent entries in the series that correctly use the mesh that @Spectaqual has pointed out, and the Ticket Banded Top Hat is one of the few in the series that uses this incorrect mesh. I’d say it’s more in line with the belief that this was done on accident.
