Transparent glass rendering issues

Glass is a unique part material in Roblox Studio. When you slide the transparency on a glass part it can filter colors with this bleary water effect on it, which is what I like. But glass is almost useless because of these rendering issues:

Both of these parts are the same size. But the implemented feature which makes any other transparent part, decal/texture, terrain water, and billboard gui unrendered is just slightly infuriating.

Same thing but with glass and water terrain.

So I went to the new Material Service and thought to edit the glass material, wow. Glass is a hidden option…

According to this post: [Introducing New Material: Glass], this feature is intended to put less impact on performance. While that’s understandable, is it really necessary? The fact that you can’t make a glass window with terrain water lake in the background just ruins basic showcase building. Do you think this will change in the future?

There is a work around, but you might not prefer it: if you change your graphics quality to medium (half way or lower) in the game settings, the glass will render the water behind it.

Yes this technically a work around for terrain water because the water loses it’s transparency. Everything else such as transparent parts, billboard guis, particles, beams are still invisible.

Easiest way to get around this is w/ a transparent smooth plastic part. You lose glass refraction (Which is what causes this issue) along with the color filtering, but it’s better than nothing. You can also use a surface appearance object under ur object with a black roughness map instead to make it more reflective
