Is there going to be some minimum level of effort required for UGC because wow
https://www.roblox.com/catalog/3718377621/Modern-Art
I believe you missed the joke that the creator is making here.
Bethink is an extremely talented artist, and this hat he made was meant to be a joke about modern art. Most players enjoy it and find it funny which makes it sell - people donât buy purely based on effort
an ironically stupid hat is still a stupid hat
It can be both stupid and a joke. Many things can be true at the same time.
But please donât try to push for Roblox to establish policies based purely on only your taste. In reality, Roblox isnât going to do anything about this hat not meeting your standards because it is selling very well and is quite popular in the community.
If weâre allowing extremely low effort items under the guise of âItâs a joke/itâs ironic/itâs selling well/who caresâ, whatâs to stop more and more people from doing the same thing? If it is indeed selling well then more people will try doing it and the UGC catalog will fill up with garbage.
Iâm not trying to stop people from making stuff because I donât like it, donât put words in my mouth. But there should be some baseline level of effort in order for a UGC item to be considered. A six sided block with an MS paint-tier texture lazily slapped on all sides should not be something even considered. At the very least if youâre going to be ironic, make it a really fancy picture frame with intricate details, and the silly graphic put on the canvas.
Why do we need to stop this? Why does it matter to you? A user-generated catalog is meant to operate like a free market where artists can make anything with minimal regulation by Roblox. Roblox already doesnât have quality control in place for games, so why change the formula for the catalog?
Again, in your opinion it is garbage. However, it reasonable to say that more people like the hat than believe it is garbage considering it is one of the best selling UGC items.
But even at that, your logic is flawed. I can make a garbage simulator that gets to the front page of Roblox. That doesnât mean that people are going to stop playing higher quality games like Jailbreak, Adopt Me, etc.
In your previous statement, you implied his hat is garbage and will cause more garbage items to be uploaded. And right now youâre arguing for minimal quality and effort requirements to be established. So yes, you are actively advocating for Roblox to control what is and isnât uploadable based onyour own standards.
If thatâs the kind of hat you want to make, then thatâs great! However, let others make what they choose to make - stop trying to control the items that are and arenât allowed based on your standards.
Just because roblox doesnât have standards for games doesnât mean they shouldnât have standards for UGC. Games (for the most part) are free to join and play. UGC costs robux. Having a baseline standard because of that is not unreasonable.
That logic right there is wrong. People can join and play both jailbreak and adopt me, because they are free. Again, UGC costs robux. Most users only have a set amount to spend and may not have enough to buy all the hats they want.
The standards of putting in more then 0 effort, which again, is not unreasonable. Like I said before, most users only have a set amount to spend. If they end up spending money on low effort items, that takes away potential profit from people who are actually putting the time in to make quality UGC.
I have to disagree with this due to the fact that you can 3D preview and try on the items before you buy them. If you buy it and donât like it after being able to fully preview it and try it on, then that is truly on the buyer and nobody else.
How does adding in quality control give users more Robux to buy all the hats they want?
No, it just means artists need to compete to sell more to profit more. This is the basic structure and invisible hand that forces free markets to continue to innovate and move forward.
Youâre missing my point. Players have a set amount of robux to spend.
Example: They like the silly low effort hat, but they also like the really well done knight helmet. They only have enough robux for one. They decide on the silly low effort hat. Creator of the knight helmet just lost profit to a 5 minute blender cashgrab.
If there was a curation system, silly low effort hat wouldnât even exist and high quality knight helmet would have made a profit, rewarding the creators hard work.
I fully understand your point, I just donât agree with it. Again, a free market has time and time again shown that it is superior to that of a regulated and controlled market like youâre proposing.
At the end of the day, let the players choose where they want to spend their money. Donât try to control where they spend their money by eliminating their choices down to âhigh-qualityâ only.
UGC catalog has so far been great! There are so many cool hats people have made, and based on the sales, I can tell that a lot of other roblox players would agree too. I canât wait to see what the future holds for the UGC catalog!
Known devs should be able to do without premium, but the average player should require premium or something like it
I think that re-texturing is problematic if you come from a position of the limited trading market, a re-textured limited item would most likely be a bad idea for UGC considering that the original item could potentially lose value.
So average developers could go through a form I donât know ps: a +13 form because there are a lot of pre-teen kids with blender skills here on DevForum | sorry for my english i am brazilian.
I agree with you the roblox community has always liked funny and fun items! this is the theme of roblox imagination, UGC items portray this, roblox from the beginning he has always been a platform for funny items and fun games
Well, its confirmed you have to have stuff Attached to you roblox account to do the same thing as devex.
I recently asked the staff member that made this post that exact question. Yes, you can DevEx the Robux from these sales.
This feature should never be public access and only accessible to certain developers, we know what would happen if it was public access, another shirt/pants page. Canât wait for them to expand the group of developers who are able to use this feature, as a lot of them have really creative ideas. This is a great direction for the catalog nonetheless and I canât wait to see where this goes.
If any way to grant access, would be nice theg have some criteria to be automated into the program at the least, that would be nice. It will take them too much time to manually add people to the program.
I believe an automated system would be great for the future, but not for right now. Still, it shouldnât be a feature that the only thing you need is ROBLOX Premium/BC like it is for uploading and selling shirts/pants. That is what Iâm saying, but an automated system would be a good idea for later in this features lifetime.
