Unit 1008 menu feedback!

Hi,

I’ve been working on Unit 1008 and I had an idea for the main menu. The camera can come up from the ground and for when you click settings or credits, it takes you back to the ground to a basement. I have the camera working nicely and the menu. Mysterious and calming was what I was going for.

The menu UI currently isn’t functional, except for the hover effect which is placed on all text buttons.

Here’s a picture of how it looks, but you would need to play the test game to see it in action.

PS: menu map is not finished.

What is missing in this menu?

The menu is fine, however it should be placed on the left side of the screen.

I’m thinking about it, but I don’t know if I should disable the chat to move it, + it’s not much of a difference.

You should disable the chat in the main menu since there is no point for it there.

the dude sitting in the middle is kinda strange, try making him lean back more and have both his arms touch the floor, and see if it’s better

The dude is a copied rig of the local player. I’ll fix that and add a subtle idle. Thanks :wink:.

Mini update:

I moved it to the left and it looks better. All there is left to do is fix the janky animation.

Any reason for this? I don’t pay attention to videogame menu layouts, but it would be interesting to know if there is a certain way to lay menus out.

English text typically goes from left to right, which gives a nicer feeling to alignment.

This menu looks great! You should make the buttons much bigger though, I think they’re way too small. Otherwise, nice job on it!

Good feedback, the reason I made them small was, initially, there were supposed to be more than 3 buttons. Single-player, Multi-player, Settings, Update Logs, Credits.

( I also wanted to give more attention to the background :smiley: )

I fixed the janky animation and made a subtle animation that brings more life into the main menu. I’ll be adding functionality to credits and settings next!

Update:

  • Polishing details that may be small but make the menu more satisfying…
  • Settings Frame (in works)…
  • Random animations and random friends chosen for the bottom camera tween…

TODO:

  • Polish the basement map
  • Polish the top map
  • Polish the lighting (I take lighting very serious)
  • Create settings menu
  • Create credits menu
  • Finish up & code the play button!
