Exactly. Clothing stealing is already a huge problem. I’ve been a victim of it myself on an older account and when I contacted roblox about it giving them all the proof they need that it’s obviously stolen, they didn’t do anything.
This will be devastating for small clothing designers.
My Idea would be to add a file check into the upload and if the same image for clothes was already uploaded before it wouldn’t let you upload it.
I meant this, but yeah, I guess that works too
I’m seeing a lot of opinions here, so i’d like to open a poll for what you all think on this update.

I had to vote I do, not because I want to, but because there isn’t a “middle” option, I think it’s a step in the right direction.
I do not agree with that at all. Those who were already designing will be receiving at least 400 robux a month. And for all those who do not have premium they have a chance to create clothing. I personally don’t have premium but I earn by doing commissions. So I do agree with this change.
If I were to decide what would happen it would be cheaper “not free” 25 - 50R$ I would say.
Dang this change is SO GOOD!!! YES FINALLY THERES NO MORE CLOTHING BOTS ON THE CATALOG! YESSS THANK YOU ROBLOX NOW WE WILL HAVE LEGIT CLOTHES!!
It’s going to get a lot of criticism. Small designers are out of business as the upload fee is more than they will ever earn. The premium requirement was already a burden but this is even worse.
Instead of making players pay for uploading, why not improve the moderation system and maybe upload limits/day or week? The upload fee won’t stop rich spammers from spamming clothes.
Introduce something as upload credits which will not require Robux but will be awarded over time so players can only upload a fixed amount of clothing. Award them even more if their clothing is legit and if they’re trustworthy.
And, why don’t you remove duplicate clothing?? There are literally extensions allowing direct downloads of pant/shirt templates in .png files from the catalog. Now, will this be slowing down clothing spams?
I really wonder what would happen to the previously botted clothing since it’s near impossible to find out the original creator.
Further, it would be good if roblox can definitively tell how expensive it will be to upload clothing. Would it be a separate fee for both shirt and pants? Would it cost the same amount when uploading via group and uploading straight from your account? What would happen if the clothing you published somehow got flagged as soon as it got published? (This is very common, even for clothing that aren’t malicious, roblox still flags them occasionally).
Overall, the change seems mostly positive, though it needs way better clarification. It would be interesting to see it play out though.
No one is moderating your clothes though. This is just a paywall - they said nothing about moderation.
The already botted clothing still exists though. This doesn’t solve any issues, and all it might do is slow down bots a little bit at the cost of destroying every small clothing designer on Roblox.
This update is going to be near ineffective to the bots if they don’t purge all of their clothes. Considering the state of roblox moderation, I don’t have high hopes for that.
This update is a glorified speedbump for the bots
This only stop a portion not the entire whole
This ain’t gonna stop rich bots/players from spamming.
I know this update seems extreme, and it probably is being slightly exaggerated, but I’m seriously excited to see in the upcoming months/whenever this is launched that the catalog actually looks like a place where small clothing creators can get recognition.
Once the bots are taken care of, clothing designers will definitely start racking in more Robux.
Wish there was an alternative but this looks like the best Roblox could do. More captchas won’t stop them.
I do agree with this update but can’t this also be fixed with Roblox moderation? We all know that moderation is so rigged. I understand they have real humans doing the moderation but I am sure it is not that hard to figure out that if there a massive amount of sales in under a minute, it is botted. Correct me if I am wrong.
Yeah, but this isn’t taking care of the bots. This is giving the bots a very brief setback by sacrificing all of the small clothing designers on Roblox.
As an experienced designer on this platform, I’m not in favor of the pay to upload update.
I understand that the staff are trying to find ways to eliminate the botting issue and copying issue across the platform, however I really don’t think that this is the right step forward. Plagiarism is a massive issue when it comes to the catalog. A countless number of my original designs and artwork have been stolen and resold without my given permission, and I and many others have lost a devastating amount of revenue. This isn’t a relatively new issue either. This has been happening within the catalog for years, and I am disheartened to hear that it is only now being vaguely brought up with minimal change as to what is really needed to fix it.
With all due respect, I am glad that this is finally being brought up in someway. But… why so late? Designers on the platform have been in a sense neglected when in comparison to developers, and even your star creators. So, it’s questionable as to why the catalog issue is now just being discussed, and why there’s still yet to be any public acknowledgement of clothing copying and art theft. Charging your content creators to upload outfits will really harm the smaller designers just trying to make their way into the community. Not to mention, we are already taxed 30% of every sale, so we’re really just losing profit in the long run.
On a side note, I can say one positive update would be studio testing. It’s incredibly frustrating when you upload work and realize that you have mistakes and have to constantly re-upload items, so I am excited to see this update be implemented. Additionally, I hope there will be a fix with moderation since it’s common to be mistakenly moderated for clothing.
Please take what I, and many other designers are saying into consideration when we say that charging non-premium users might not be the best idea in practice. I hope there is another way we can fix the catalog issue, and give designers the platform they deserve and end the massive plagiarism issue that causes so many of us to lose revenue, especially those that DevEx.
I 100% agree with this. But do the botting and people who steal clothing even remember that they are breaking the law? Or they just think Roblox is nothing can happen to you?
