I have been reading over the posts people have made already and would just like to give my perspective on the situation also.
This new update has is pros and its cons but the cons are outweighing the pros.
I am a small clothing designer with a group with 664 members as of right now and even with that I barely make an income. With this new update it will be near impossible to make any sort of profit off of clothing for smaller designers because most of the time they will end up getting less robux in return for what they paid for when uploading the shirt. I average 3-5 sales in each of my uploads and that gets me a mere 10 robux due to roblox already making you have to pay a 30% fee. At this point I may give up on designing as these standards are getting way too high, I understand that this method CAN prevent bypassed clothing items but it really isnât worth it in the long run.
I have seen lots of people agreeing with the situation but have never been in a situation like this before. This method will not stop all bypasses clothing, in fact it may make only a slight difference.
An alternative solution would be more levels of moderation towards uploads. Smaller creators should not have to suffer for the wrong doings of others. I understand that with roblox, moderation takes time to go through as many people are uploading at once but just because of a few bad people doesnât justify this new update. There is also the issue with clothing spammers and this can be resolved with one of two options. We could either add some sort of cooldown to roblox uploads or when uploading a shirt, you could check if there was the same shirt that had already been published on the group page. The preferable choice would be a cooldown though because obviously spammers can make a tiny little change to the item and go undetected by moderation.
I think it should just stay as premium only, if this update were to go ahead I doubt much people would bother with premium anymore because at that point all it does is give you a little icon wile you are in a game and some other minor things ultimately making it useless. I have had premium mainly for my clothing uploads and I may not even renew it due to there not being a point.
Larger clothing groups I doubt will have much of an issue with this change because they have such a high income and to them, 100 robux is not a lot.
If you have any other opinions I would love to hear them so I can get other peopleâs perspective on this too.
Thank you for taking your time on reading what I had to say, just needed to get it out of my system.
I have not made my argument off of this information, I made my argument based on the fact that there is a fee in the first place. I only used 100R$ as a reference and even said that this would be a realistic amount because itâd make the most sense and be more effective. Weâre all basically just making predictions with the little amount of information weâre given.
I never said this was a good thing and I never said it was a bad thing. I said this because theyâre different. You canât just say âit wouldnât matter if they have to buy Robux or premium monthly when they already doâ (summarized) if the criteria was different beforehand.
I only talked about guaranteed success because, again, this seems to be what you kept repeating. I also said that there isnât any because you donât have to pay to make a game, you donât have to pay to make clothing (as of right now), you donât have to pay to make models, scripts, etc. I wouldnât care if I got no sales if it were to be free, so that argument is very flawed.
As thereâd be no point in continuing because this isnât going anywhere, Iâm going to stop here. You can message your concerns if youâd like but bye
This doesnât seem like too much of an issue though. This whole update is pushed to prevent clothing copiers from making profit and from filling up the avatar shop.
This feature is not intended to fix the 2D clothing shop on its own
So why is this even a thing? If Roblox knows this isnât going to stop anything, why do this unless theyâre deliberately trying to kill their own community? Everyone hates it, everyone agreed that even if this was intended to fix anything it wouldnât work, so why do this?
I see zero use to this update, aside from taking even more more Robux out of circulation and putting it into the pockets of Roblox. Isnât a pointless sales fee enough?
I see a lot of clothing designers wanting a higher minimum price for clothes, which is understandable for them as it would essentially double all their profits without any effort.
There are a lot more downsides to this, not just poor players not affording clothes. In my opinion there should be more place for price competition, not just everyone going to the minimum. For this to happen, copying clothes has to become impossible, but in a hypothetical world where stealing clothes doesnât exist, Iâd love to see no minimum price, so there would actually be proper payment proportional to the quality of the clothing designer.
I canât help but agree with some others that this would cause a bit more harm than good. If itâs meant to combat botted clothing, I noticed that certain already approved clothing will be auto-accepted rather quickly. Canât the same type of feature be implemented to prevent replicas, and therefore botted clothes?
Yeah the recent updates have been a bit harmful to genuine designers. Like after a purchase your robux can now be pending for 3-7 days rather than 3 days only.
If bots could get Premium, then they can get Robux even easier, especially by Group Payouts.
There is still a ton of previously-botted clothing that will still be there after this update. (Bit off-topic, but the Games page also has this problem of copied games)
Even if the fee is less than 100 Robux, this will hurt small designers/developers and people using clothes to pay for commissions.
Premium now has so few benefits, itâs barely even worth it anymore (in my opinion)
The best way to fix botted clothing is to just improve moderation, not to put a cost on developers. Adding a cost will not stop very many bots and will just reduce the number of very skilled but smaller clothing designers.
I agree with @AbandonedAztec on that there needs to be a way to prevent duplicated clothing.
Maybe a simple check to see if the new clothing looks exactly like any of the other clothes?
As somebody suggested, it would be nice if this thread was locked until much more further information is announced. Because of this, people are now creating speculation and theories of why this is happening, which leaves a bad dent on the community in general.
I get why you would see this as a win, but for a lot of people its not. I only see one pro which is allowing people without premium to upload clothing, but there are a lot more cons. Some cons that come to mind are making it harder to become a clothing designer, wiping out small groups that canât afford a fee, inflating clothing prices, potentially not even affecting copied clothing, making premium even more useless, and more that doesnât instantly come to mind.
Yes, at first glance not having to have premium to upload clothing looks good, but itâs not as good as it seems.
If you click the search bar and look for all the things I posted in this topic you will see my opinion. Ussually clothing designers arenât ONLY clothing designers. They draw 2D thumbails, they do UI and etc. There are a lot of cons, yes, but also a lot of pros. Premium costs 5$, you can use that money to buy R$ tu upload clothes. I was a clothing designer myself and most of my work was commissioned, meaning that I had no need to upload it by myself but still earn some R$.
With just the uplod fee there will be bots that scam users, use their robux and then upload stolen/crappy assets and botting will still be the same. How about instead of dampening the problem, you actually fix it?
As someone who has recently started a clothing group myself, I worry about what effects this will have on my designers and other small designers. I see what Robloxâs intentions are here, but this is just not it.
this is really awesome news for some people, including me :D, but it seems a little unfair to charge people with premium the same amount as those without it. maybe give premium users a 50% or even larger discount? or just keep it free for them?
As a clothing group owner I think this update comes with heavy challenges, this will for sure stop botted clothing but it will end up having heavy damages to smaller clothing groups as they may not be able to maintain the fees.
As @iiSpeak_Lua I think Premium users should have a discount when it comes to the fees put on as it will give Premium users a replacement for uploading clothes.
As a game developer I surely donât have a say in this conversation but I am quite curious. Many games use custom assets shirts and pants being one of them. Are game developers able to privately upload shirts for private use on that specific game? Similar to decals and meshes being uploaded directly to the games files.
Honestly, premium was a cheaper mode of uploading in the long run. I hate this new update, especially for small developers like many of us are. I canât afford 2 dollars per clothing set, thatâs outrageous, especially if I donât want to sell the clothing, but would rather keep it for my own personal use. They should at least let premium members upload for free. Theyâre taking away a lot of our benefits.
