Honestly, yeah. I wish they’d just improve the copyright system instead of this mumbo jumbo but I guess they can’t for whatever reason.
I’m probably a bit late now, but it’s asking for the question under that
The update is diffidently better, I mean some limitations can be lifted but I do like the idea that you can give people permission to use your audio. Although I still don’t see the point that if you want it to be private just don’t upload it.
I said at the time those people who didnt understand the audio privacy update are misunderstood.
Due to this speculation that they’re being forced to cancel their community over a lawsuit and that the reason they’ve provided is not true, that might only be a dream.
But we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
Their response is okay but it’s not good enough in my opinion.
By this point I think people are just so tired that they’ll just reply with a “thank you” without looking it over.
I laughed when I read that. To put into perspective on what this is like, think of it as if Roblox knocked a basket of apples off a cliff and said “Oh, quick! Moderators, slowly pick the good apples from the rotten ones, but don’t stop the basket from falling!” What’s the point?
No, Roblox, we don’t need more clutter in the already APM cluttered audio toolbox. This is going to be more of a detriment to finding new sound effects than a work-around.
Ever since Roblox has been pushing this “ID Verification” thing, I’ve felt that they are just waiting to trap developers/players into a situation where they have to give their real-life data to at least be able to do things close to average. Being 13+ doesn’t mean you’re a “Verifiable” person. I know tons of teenagers and some adults that shouldn’t be trusted at all. Plus, it gives an uneasy feeling knowing that a company is pressuring and taunting people who don’t trust them with features that should be mediocre, and for a lack of a better word just feels evil.
I understand (Or at least think I understand since you guys are so non-transparent about these topics) that you guys are going through a lawsuit, but seriously I’ve looked over that document and just laughed at some of its “Evidence.” Look, I don’t want to be on a platform controlled by a company that causes an uproar by changing “Games” to “Experiences” just because they briefly got mentioned in a lawsuit between two unrelated companies.
I know I might sound like that canned person who says, “I’m going to leave, I’m really going to do it,” but this whole situation has seriously been a warning for me to start learning Unreal just in case you guys screw up again.
Where’s the music update for games you have the sound effects but not the music? and we don’t want that crappy roblox stock music either
You can go to a DMV and get an ID that only works as an ID, not a Drivers License. Nothing required, just a fee.
I do agree that 10 Uploads is very low, not sure why they didn’t pick something a little higher, maybe just because botting and inappropriate audios, and ID verified people probably won’t try something like that.
I’m still against the update entirely, but this kind of fixes SOME of the issues I had with it.
I still worry about THAT…
I can understand the reason for audio; copyright. But can’t you just make everything PUBLIC by default for other assets? If a developer wants to protect their assets, they’ll probably go the extra mile to disable an “Allow Copying” option.
Overall, still a bad update for the platform.
Greater transparency is always appreciated. That being said, I still have major gripes with this update.
As I understand it, Roblox is privating all audios that are not SFX. Given how public music tracks will be privated after the 22nd, will they revert back to being public after the privacy controls are rolled out? I’m fairly sure that those developers intended on their audios being used by others if they had set it as such before. I’m just concerned that these sounds may remain private after the privacy controls are released, because not all of their original uploaders may necessarily be around to change settings back to public.
State issued IDs (at least in the state of Washington and specifically enhanced IDs [which last longer than standard IDs]) are more expensive than drivers licenses. It costed me at least $50 for me to get my enhanced state issued ID. It is a good idea to wait on a state issued ID unless if you REALLY need it.
Like some people have said earlier on, just because someone is ID verified doesn’t make them reputable or trustworthy.
In fact, just a few days ago someone got scammed on the Talent Hub by someone who they thought was trustworthy because they were verified.
It’s ridiculous that ROBLOX keeps pushing us to give our identification information to a third-party in the first place just so we can do things that shouldn’t even be restricted to begin with.
Thank you! This was the worst part of this update. Though while these audios will stay public will we still be able to use them? I remember you saying we’d need the audio on our group or ROBLOX account to use it in game. Or will these public assets still be usable?
It’s great that roblox decided to listen (somewhat) to the backlash, but my biggest gripe with this update is the fact that all public audio not uploaded by roblox will be unusuable to anyone except the creator.
All I ask is that any audio that is currently public should stay public, and not automatically privated. Fix your copyright detection rather than going nuclear with this.
On another note, please fix the audio search. If you’re going to upload a bunch of SFX, explicitly state their uses in the title. I don’t want to look for SFX and find one that has no relation to the title.
Another note, don’t do this to models, meshes, and decals. Many people (myself included) rely on them for things such as references, tools or textures that they don’t know how to make, and learning. Not to mention it goes against your slogan “Powering Imagination”.
(unlisted without a word)
I love roblox.
I never said that makes them 100% trustworthy, I said it makes them MORE trustworthy. Most people will be a lot more careful once they have verified, and some won’t. The ones who won’t are idiots who will most likely get caught.
Thanks for the clarity! As expected, March 22nd is a hard deadline. And thank you for allowing Groups to access sounds uploaded by somebody else! That’ll be a huge savings for some projects which rely on alternate accounts to hide assets.
Good to hear, but please tell me the (SFX) tag is a temporary fix that will be eventually supplanted with relevant sound categories and search filtering?
Honestly hope that Roblox adds actual tags you can add to games, and in this case assets, so you can more easily look for specific sounds and/or music.
