[Update] Changes to Asset Privacy for Audio

at least give us the ability to pay robux to upload sounds after we exceed our limit

Running around moderation trying to upload assets that aren’t even inappropriate but got moderated anyways, waiting a whole &@#%ING month just for 10 sounds because you don’t have an ID. And waiting for sounds to get approved… Yeah. I think that sums it up about right

The 6 second threshold only applied to sound assets uploaded before March 22nd. No asset uploaded after the change can be made public at the moment. :disappointed:

I think the incapability of making new SFX public is quite inadequate compensation wise. I would’ve uploaded some custom SFX for use in other games (Arsenal in terms of Kill & Hit SFX), but instead got let down because my new audio only works in my games, as well as the audio only being shareable if you are given developer access to the games you want to use the audio within, which, lets be real, the owner of Arsenal is never giving random people developer perms just cause they want to use their audio in the game.

I’m not really happy that I only get to upload 10 audio assets per month. That’s really absurd.

Now, I don’t know why, but it really seems like you want us, the developer community, to forcibly verify our age to “have a better experience on the Roblox platform.” I get that this may make Roblox somewhat safer, but you must keep in mind that there are many young developers who’s passions may be ruined due to such features being locked away to age verified users.

Furthermore, it is a pain to wait a whole month for me to continue uploading more audio assets for several of my in-development games. Was this considered by your team?

So, I ask you this, Roblox; just why limit one’s creativity and passion by adding such a low limitation of audio uploading when not ID verified? Why force creators to verify their age to access a mere increase in audio uploads? And, why create this extra barrier that’s just making our development jobs harder? There is absolutely no reason to create these “uploading perks” for ID verified users. Why not just make this similar to the free badges?

Feels just like YouTube removing dislikes to “protect small creators”.

Because, badges are simply collectible images. The only thing about it that needs to be moderated is the title, description, and image. But for audio it’s all that minus the image and plus an ENTIRE audio. It’s super easy to bypass moderation for sounds. Things would still be bad, probably worse if hundreds of inappropriate audios are uploaded every day. You guys will always find a way to complain though so.

Yeah. I’m one of those young creators… And I agree… Maybe try doing 60 audios a day for everyone.

It doesn’t necessarily have to be infinite audios per day, but rather a set limit for all users on the platform. Currently, it’s really unfair that Roblox is splitting everyone up into a “priority list” and I believe every user should be able to have an upload limit of, let’s say, 50 audio assets per month, no matter if the user is verified or not.

Coming back to this post, it’s been almost 3 months since audios were forced to be private. There has yet still no response about this update, Remember when Roblox said they were looking to re-build the forums, Well I guess not. this update is like the forums. But this time with audio privacy. Why not let anyone private their own audio.

There is speculation that the audio upload fees may have been mentioned in the lawsuit, therefore I don’t think we’re going to see the ability to purchase additional uploads anytime soon unlike what they did with badges.

Who said it did?

Why should bots get the same amount of audio as normal developers? And like asking for more would just be verifying your ID. I suppose a request by email for more audio would be nice. But why do you need more than 10 audios a month? If you’re that experienced to need more than 10 audios, you’re probably old enough to verify an ID. Also, can people stop with “i’m not giving my ID to roblox”? It’s safe and you can sue them if you really get your data stolen and sold.

Because it’s making their job easier. The added fee for additional audios to upload, however, I see no downsides to and they should totally add.

…Even it was from Roblox, Private Audio asset is…

I believe you misunderstood, I said 10 audios per month, not day.

I don’t know if you understand this, but … many people, including me, value our privacy and are uncomfortable sharing such sensitive information with Roblox, even if we meet the age requirements.

My bad. But also roblox said that limit, just made a small mistake. You don’t have to make this big, two-sentence deal about it.

Refer to:

Let’s say Roblox happened to sell your ID information and credentials. If one didn’t want to get into legal issues, what other options will they have? Why would I risk getting into legal lawsuit issues as a developer living my normal life?

I believe I’m speaking up for more than half of the developer community when I make a so-called “big-deal” out of it. Furthermore, if I want to express my opinions and concerns, I have permission to do so. That’s what the Developer Forums is literally about, you cannot call my opinions or concerns a “big deal” when it is really … well, just my point of view.

Nobody can make a claim like this without really digging in. Just because the Roblox Terms of Service claims that “it’s safe,” I’m sure people like you and me know that nothing on the internet is 100% safe. What makes you think a government-issued ID used for mere age verifications is safe? If you ask me, Roblox shouldn’t be requesting such sensitive information for age verification. Your issued ID contains everything.

More than half of the dev community is upset that I mistook the word “month” for “day”? That doesn’t make sense to me.

Hmm… why do you care so much about your data?
