Hello. I am working on a Low Poly Steampunk area for one of my games and would like to make this area look better. I want it to look more natural. Not like I just slapped gears on a wall, lol. I can’t think of anything to fill the area more. Any feedback or suggestions are appreciated. UPDATED VERSION:
It looks great, the only things I would change are…
On the walls you can see some green, from a bush, tree or a vine. If it’s a vine, try and make it going down the wall a bit so it’s not floating on one side, and the other. There’s two of those there.
Next, the two end gears. Maybe make them look a bit more detailed?
Steampunk is most appreciated when the cogs and all other details have a function.
Whether this is to power a certain tool or object, or to simply have all connected cogs rotate in sync.
Try to think of something to place near the wall that could be driven by those cogwheels!
To get your imagination going, how about a cogwheel-powered water wheel? Get yourself a small river going!
Great work @Natalie_Clabo! The airship you’ve created looks excellent. I also really like the variety of different cog designs you’ve used to decorate the environment.
Possible Improvements
If I were to suggest any possible improvements, I think the bushes against the wall look slightly out of place in contrast with the mechanical wall behind. The boardwalk-style flooring also suggests that there wouldn’t be any soil for the bushes to grow on in the first place.
I think if you were to replace the bushes with Steampunk-style devices, such as levers or clocks, or even place the bushes in Steampunk-style pots, it would help to reinforce the Steampunk theme.
You could add some low poly pipes, and also some sewer drains on the floor. Also, you can add some barrels, scattered tools on the floors (for example a wrench). Personally for a steampunk vibes i would go with darker colors, but it is your game do what makes you happy .
I know these are not low poly, just some inspirations.
