I have been using emojis in my game in order to easily add pictures to the titles of things. This is an example:
However, in my process of doing this I have seen that the emojis are very outdated. Many of the updates done to twemoji are not visible in the roblox emojis.
Personally, I much prefer the latest versions, as they have a whole sort of new emojis (,) that I could use in my game
Another reason for updating the emoji list is for the players. They may be confused when they want to use an emoji and it’s not there, or when the emoji they see is completely different from the recent ones. An example would be the zany emoji:
There are many more examples, but I don’t think listing them all would be neccesary.
I really hope the emojis get updated, as it would unlock a whole range of new emojis and lead to a better experience for the players.
I agree. Emoji support needs a little bigger support in my own opinion.
Not only this issue, but…
We should be able to use “letter emojis”, but they should act like normal letters filter wise. I don’t really see a reason why they become hashtag emoji.
We can’t really use emojis in default chat without using copypaste.
Roblox’s emoji catalog is quite old, and it’s real hard to communicate via emojis when half the ones you use aren’t even supported. Since Roblox itself doesn’t have an emoji keyboard and relies on your own devices emoji input, it’s quite the shock that so so many of those emojis you can input won’t even render.
Currently, Roblox only supports up to Twemoji 12.1.5, which itself follows Unicode’s Emoji 12.1. This repo is almost 6 YEARS old, dating back to 2019. I’m assuming the last update to the database was the Unicode version this post is referring to, quite a long while. Doesn’t help how most of the newer emojis in my experience have no fallback either, so they’re displayed as the dreaded Unicode box of utter despair. I think it’s worth updating to a more recent Unicode release. Please. Let me use my emoji in game/party chat Roblox, it’s all I ask for.
Although, I do want to point out that Twemoji itself has been discontinued for a good 2-3 years now, ever since Twitter sold and went private (and laid off the team managing it.) The latest release is only up to Emoji 14.0, which is 2 releases behind the current Unicode release (16.0). Though, a fork of the repository was made by one of the developers that originally worked on Twemoji. It supports up to Emoji 15.1, which is only one release behind the current Unicode version of 16.0. To my knowledge, it’s also what’s used by Discord. I think it’s worth checking out if the Twemoji look is still desired.
If this could be looked into, I’d appreciate it a ton.
