Update to Roblox Licensing Program & Brand Guidelines

Think if someone’s good idea’s true meaning is good to ruin.
Betlayal, isn’t it?

I have to agree.

I have owned and run a group for over 12 years, the Robloxia Railroad System. The group is entirely within the bounds of Roblox, and having existed under our name for so long we feel this is an outrageously massive slap in the face. Suddenly we can’t make new experiences with our name involved, and I fear if these guidelines go further we won’t be able to do anything under our name anymore. What do we do now, trash 12 years of history, memories, fun and frolic on Roblox by being forced to change our name?

Ok I understand the reasons behind the Stars Program idea, even tho small devs won’t be able to have a toy line up anymore as it requires money and full time investment, and thats if the big company that produces toy have something to care about the small dev you are.

And as I am a small dev, I know this toy business is completely over for me, aswell as the funds I had for a living, that really sad.

Thanks for the mail notification at least.

I always thought this platform had the motto “Powering Imagination”. It seems like they limit you to the core when it comes to things as simple as naming. From how it looks, it seems as if they’re trying to get rid of R6 and Classic R15 as a whole in place of Rthro. This game is Roblox, nothing else. Getting rid of what it’s mostly known for is going to hurt the community tremendously. Especially when it’s going to look like those generic multiverse games every other company is trying to push out now. This platform was special because they weren’t like everyone else. I can hardly see the good in most of these things here. Maybe the Star Program being sunsetted was fine, because smaller developers would get control. The other things? It’s removing the “Blox” from Roblox.

Even so, wouldn’t it still fall under fair use?

I am part of the Stars agreement, and I have not received a payout in 11 months - I should have gotten one 5 months ago - I have 3 toys that have recently released which I have not received a cent from thus far. Roblox is 5 months late in paying me. It is coming dangerously close to a year since I have received a payment from them. Emailing them has yielded nothing so far, and I have to wait over 20 days just for a response. It is absolutely egregious and infuriating. Now I am seriously concerned that I will never get what I am owed.

EDIT: Matter is now resolved.

The things about naming and the logos are understandable because they always owned the trademarks to them, they at any moment could restrict their usage. Because the current intellectual laws are dumb and broken things like this are bound to happen.

Are ROBLOX staff going to have the decency to address any of the questions & statements highlighted here or are our voices just falling on dead ears?

I have been a frequent user since 2006 - I’ve seen the introduction of many foolish brand moves but this is by far the worst - Like many others, I’ll be taking my knowledge and looking into Unity & other competitors.

Stupid move, ROBLOX.

This really sucks.
I understand why this was done but something else should have been thought of, this is just horrible. Maybe the R6 and R15 models should be provided under a license that allows the third party usage of them? That at least would fix a lot of issues relating to the usage of this and could be very benefitial for the platform as a whole.
Though I understand that the company is very over protective of their IP so it’s probably never going to happen. And that they are for some weird reason discouraging the usage of the classic avatars makes it even less unlikely, but I hope it would happen.

Wonderful, another completely useless and hurtful update for devs, honestly I am getting tired of this… Roblox here is not only making thousands of games rebrand, but also basically killing all roblox animation channels and influencer with names that have something to do with roblox, oh, and also sunsetting the star licensing program which almost no one knew about for no reason and literally ending it with no notice after devs reported that they didn’t get revenue for months

Roblox has really become a horrible company, and it’s making me seriously consider moving to other platforms.

“Yes. Using word “Roblox” on Roblox is heavily objectionable and can give huge damages to the community. By that, the usage of “Roblox” on Roblox is officially banned.”

Does this change mean that Chrome extensions with names like “RoGold - Level Up Roblox”, “Roblox+” or “BTRoblox” would be taken down?

I don’t think so, but still, check the TOS to be sure. In the announcement, they say that you can’t create anymore experiences with the word Roblox and it’s variants, they are not talking about third-party products, I think RoGold should be fine since roblox didn’t trademark “Ro” and it’s not too similar to the name “Roblox”, and if Roblox+ and BTRoblox were fine until now, it should still be ok.

Y’all board of directors really have the AUDACITY to gather together in a room and be like “why are we loosing Devs?!?!?!”

To try to answer your second question – I don’t know your specific situation, but are you sure they’re still in stores? At least in my case, my merch stopped selling without notice and I stopped being paid as a result.

They own the trademark to those so I suppose it is againts the trademark at least. (I’m not sure though and this is not legal advice)

Yeah, not sure. I don’t want my extension taken down, though.

No, no, no, no. ######, you messed up again. Bad update. Everyone hates it. Nobody likes this update. Nobody likes Rthro. Nobody likes the “On ######” Badge. (well, I can say it looks alright but that’s beyond the point.)

So you’re saying we can’t use R6 and R15 for game trailers, thumbnails, animations, AND GOD DAMN GAMEPLAY VIDEOS?! (and profile pictures in other platforms like discord)? Horrible change. Revert it. Please.

Like, NOT EVEN ####? Come on ######, revert this.

Yes, they’re still in stores and sold on Amazon. Players have sent photos in of them purchasing the toys.

Sorry to hear that, then. Hopefully it gets sorted sooner rather than later.
