Updates to Item Holding Periods [Marketplace]

So it’s official that roblox added the update. That’s crazy. Crazy how they almost didn’t let replies on this topic at all because they didn’t want to see the backlash. They opened it after 40 minutes, and 99.9% of the replies are flaming the decision. And after 300 replies, they didn’t read a single one and published the update.

Quite literally, this discourgages people from trading, and people from starting trading, or getting premium to trade. I was going to start trading, but now, this has made it the worst ever time to do that.

Lets evaluate the pros and cons of this.

Pros Cons
Roblox can cancel trades involved in beaming Items change value and you can’t do anything about it for two days
Slightly benefits rich traders who take things slower Trading is forced to be slower for small traders
Buying an item is unsafe because it’s value will completely change after a week
Players are discourgaged to buy premium or start trading
Trading/buying for and flipping a projected is impossible

the only pro is that it prevents any illegal activity there is no other pro

besides that trading is pretty much unbearable now

I understand your concerns about the proposed solutions, but I believe there are still some points to consider. While implementing a multi-step verification process can enhance security, it’s essential to acknowledge that no system is entirely foolproof. Even with email, authentication, and phone codes, determined hackers may still find ways to breach accounts, although it would undoubtedly reduce the risk for the majority of users.

also, now there are less failtraders so I see it in a positive way.

about your “Con: Items change value and you can’t do anything about it for two days”
That is a pro sir, now people cant panic trade the items and have it drop in the first place.

you’re a game dev, of course this won’t affect you, simply because you don’t trade. every trader views this as a horrible update and that’s what matters the most.

Every con is a pro from a different point of view. My point of view is somebody who traded before, stopped, and wants to start again. Now I don’t want to start again.

I’ve been trading for 2+ years, seen the downs and ups, this one is an up.

Now I dont need to worry anymore about my items being stolen, aswell as less people can fail trade items I own making the demand items raise.

just wait and see :eyes:

it isn’t, roblox is just too lazy to change it. it’s 2 days.

another absolute garbage band-aid update by roblox that fundamentally changes trading for the worse just because they cannot be bothered to deal with the slightest annoyances when it comes to making sure their site is safe!

first it was the 3-7 day robux transfer delay, then it was the group fund minimum 2 week membership time, and now yet another part of the economy is affected by roblox’s utter degeneracy

we are greeted with another case of ignorance by HR along the lines of “but hey, as long as it means less stress on the underpaid outsourced support team, less responsibilities for them, and therefore even less money to pay them out in salaries, we can sacrifice the user experience of the players!” and must suck it up because the majority of the braindead userbase that actually makes up this platform does not trade and frankly does not care about “minimizing disruption to your economy”

After trading for over 2 years, I can safely say that this is the absolute worst thing that has happened to the trading community. Reasons:

  • This change makes it IMPOSSIBLE to start trading. Imagine a person trying to trade up from a single small item. They would do a good trade, then wait 2 whole days before being able to trade again!

  • Imagine you are unfortunate enough to get an item that is doing horrible. It is dropping in value, but you can’t do anything for two days and lose a ton of value.

Instead of doing such absurd changes, why not update your security system and add even more authentication requirements?? You are driving people away from trading. Absolutely NOONE asked for this.

He is a scammer . I wonder if he will plug them like ussualy and prove us that trade hold update does nothing or roblox will do something.

It is now a week after this post first emerged, @Roblox stated:

and we, as a community, almost collectively, disagreed with the implementation of such a policy for regular trading and many have offered alternatives or reasoning as to why this idea is not ideal. Yet, we are only met with the official implementation of such a controversial feature. Disappointing.

This is like a grocery store having to search everyone entering just because sometimes people steal. The update is so stupid

If Roblox had any shred of respect for the community they would have at least acknowledged the almost universal criticism of this update.

Instead they remain silent.

As I’ve said in the past, I know controversial decisions have to be made, but I have no respect for companies who gaslight their users into thinking they asked for the changes and refuse to provide thorough reasoning as to why the changes need to be made.

I am utterly disgusted, disappointed, and discouraged by how Roblox is interacting with the community. Please do better.

I think all they need to do is just make the holding periods only last 2-3 hours at maximum, then this whole update can be good tbh.

It’s a pretty simple change, so maybe we’ll see them adjust it soon.

A 2 day holding period is too long, I’m sure everyone would want to get the item they traded for as soon as possible and be able to sell / trade it again depending on how well the item is doing.

Trading is collapsed, demolished, ravaged, smashed, wrecked, abolished, and annihilated.
