Updating Experience Guideline Policies to Keep Our Younger Users Safe

i loved Plane Crazy when I was like 8 or 9 (and i still do)

what the hell do you mean “safe?” ???
minecraft doesnt blacklist under 13 players (or i dont think, maybe its changed in the last 2 years idk)

What if… they just… change the name? We’re talking about bad actors here, which this update aims to prevent

These changes are pretty vague, especially this part

So you’re telling me, I could make a Roblox game called “Welcome to Roblox House Building” but I can’t make a Roblox game called “Welcome to Roblox Building”?

Regardless, if you’re building with blocks, how is that considered “gone through Roblox moderation”? Doesn’t this affect games like “Build a Boat for Treasure”, “RetroStudio”, or even Piggy’s build mode? Considering the fact that blocks are literally just 8x8x8 blocks that I can use to freely make whatever I want, but, I can’t do the same with drawing itself?

Also, I was really considering making a Copyrighted Artists remake; looks like that’s not happening

I like how they “make the platform safer” when stuff like this is promoted.

Are you losing anything like robux from this game though?

No but it promotes gambling which already shouldn’t be promoted to children.

Really this shouldn’t be too hard for Roblox. All they would need is a new Enum.

I’m guessing they’re afraid of parents that overreact and go “oH mY GOd rOBlOx dEVs arE TraCKiNG My KIdS AGe!!1!” even though they already show this in game analytics and web.roblox.com links.

I never played it, And I don’t see how is this even allowed on the site. It’s all ages. and last time I checked kids were not allowed to play at casinos.

What if a hangout game adds some roles (Teacher, Doctor, Student etc) which are completely optional to use, but doesn’t change anything else about their game. Does that now make it a role-playing game?

gambling addictions formed in games can transfer to casinos :exploding_head:

Well im really sure the game devs of “18 plus hangout” will be indecent enough to change it to “8+ hangout” in order to keep a fraction of the playercount they already achieve. Of course they can just change the name, but still you always know what genre game your in. A game like brookhaven with acutal roleplay items and places to “live” is far different to a social hangout game that is just a few free models bashed together.

Gambling, the term, only really exists when there’s something to lose. Sol’s rng isn’t technically a gambling game, but we associate it with gambling. You see mt point, right?

Using gambling to describe rng games and lootboxes really takes out the meaning of actual gambling.

I also just checked their genre and roblox assigned “PLS Donate” the “Hangout” genre:

I am guessing those games will be restricted aswell

You can already tell if a user is <13 by checking if a certain word filters for them. Probably an oversight but like I didnt tell you this

I don’t exactly know what a RNG is, I just saw the word Casino and it reminded me of different kind of games I’ve already seen on the platform.

Everything is gambling! They are all purchases that you may regret in the future, and in some games paying for items with low porbability outcomes eg lootboxes.

It is the act of making a risky desicion in the hope of a desired result

I meant if you have nothing to lose in these games they cannot be considered gambling.

Lootboxes are not gambling, because there is no possible reward outcome. If you buy a lootbox, you cannot earn any money back from it.

It’s a paid random item.
