Updating Experience Guideline Policies to Keep Our Younger Users Safe

It’s because they never appear to care about the community unless it affects them. These updates are all in response to a twitter post from Hindenberg calling them out. Especially the group wall one. This might’ve been a response to seeing one of bluebxrrybot’s posts on that, but that would be rare, I think it’s just because of the x post.

I should probably take a look at that, what does it refer to - just how unsafe roblox is?

Not even 2 decades ago, Roblox was promoted as an “Online Social Hangout” (youtu.be/OBUlpvyInzg)
Now, Roblox’s main age demographic aren’t able to play the Social Hangout games.
How about, instead of limiting what games can be played, ban the games that actively break Roblox’s own guidelines?

I guess this makes sense TBH, it just sucks for all the people who have made drawing (free-form user creation) games.

Might be a longshot, but is there any way developers of free-form user creation experiences would someday be able to tap into a Roblox Moderation API that would allow them to check with roblox before displaying a user creation to everyone else?

After taking some time to ponder on the definitions of free-form user creation, I have some concerns in regards to what that means.

This Devforum post specifically states that it applies only to 2D, whilst saying that 3D is otherwise. The guideline itself has no mention of 2D, only that 3D assets make it an exception. In the example of spray paint, if I were to make 3D meshes for the spray, that have volume, would that no longer make it 2D? Would that still be considered free-form user content?


The questionare would make me think that it does consider it was free-form user content. My experience, Oaklands, has the ability to connect pieces of logic using wires. These wires are 3D but could be seen as 2D, and they have the ability to be formed in a way to “draw.” There’s also other objects like string lights, and banners, that could be used to “draw.” Would this sort of content be considered free-form user creations? According to the questionare, 3D assets are fine, these wires are made of 3D parts, this is why I am so conflicted.

Would free-form user content apply to 3D assets that can be built by the player? In my example, they’re able to be scaled and rotated in any way they’d like. Users also have access to other assets like 2D planes, what if they COULD create “drawings” with it, even if it’s not the intended purpose? Would this also be considered free-form user content?

Would it ever be possible in the future for developers to limit certain features of a game to 13+? For example, having the base game be all ages, but the ability to see user generated content for 13+ users? I have an animal roleplay game (morph into an animal) that has user generated content. I made a custom report feature that allows players to report the UGC if it breaks Roblox’s TOS.

Good update, Do sugegst the free-form user creations to get a update where developers can use an ai provided by roblox to moderate 2d assets.
Roblox has a team of AI Engineers so this shouldn’t be too difficult for them to cook up and would also really benefit the developers of these games.

Maybe enforce the policies and it will keep the younger users safe? Food for thought?

What if our game doesnt rely on any drawing being shared. Like for an example, i have a drawing gallery that only appears for 13+ users via an API that can allow us to check what users can and cannot see.

This would be the safest and best option to all devs

In many cases it’s very easy as a developer to disable the 13+ content in a game locally for < 13 users on the fly. For instance, in my shooter game i could easily auto disable blood for < 13 users. In the future is there any chance my game could be made playable for those users provided I adapt the experience to their preferences / restrictions?

alternatively, i would take the ability to make a version of my game only playable and only recommended to < 13 users. though that’s less than ideal.

CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG but isn’t there a Chat Api that can tell you if a string would tag for a specific user or not?

there is, but the experience would still be restricted to 13+
it would be awesome if you could make those minor optimizations and get a bigger audience reach

Not the most perfect update but it’s a slight improvement. Just a couple hundred more of those and Roblox will be safe lol.

Will you ever consider allowing developers to prevent <13 users from joining their experience if it is rated 13+? Currently the only way to enforce this is checking their ID verification status, but that is a bit invasive and prevents non-ID verified people from joining.

Why do you want to prevent this? This seems like the opposite of what you’d want to do.

I set it to 13+ for a reason, <13 is not my target audience and often brings more trouble than its worth in analytics alone.
