I made a game with the first new materials and now i have to change colors so it looks like before, kinda a pain but if it’s for the better then i’ll accept it.
I just looked into this and this is now so much better. Thank’s!
Sorry if im late on this but does this mean we can use custom materials for a published game now?
(In game use)
This is bc you have a wrong image type like anything else that is NOT png, jpg.
Also this could be, because of how many MB the file of that image takes.
Yeah thats how these things work, its just file sizes, it usually happeneds when you download normal maps.
I know it’s most likely intentional to make each individual brick stand out, but from afar the pavement material has some jarring white outlines:
These pretty much disappear up close:
Outside this would make sense because of lighting but both of these screenshots were taken in a cavern, and the outlines appear even on parts that are not in range of any light sources which means they suddenly look cartoony when viewed from far away.
Asphalt is darker with 2022 materials disabled and normal with them enabled. It’s harder to make road markings this way because even the most intense colors aren’t bright enough. Thanks for fixing the grass, though!
Thanks for the feedback, the reason we updated it so that when putting grass alongside ground they will be seamless. You may have to use TerrainDetail to customize the side texture of grass.
We went through the feedback and try to improve usability as much as possible. Unfortunately, any change may affect some people. We try to minimize this occurrence however since we are still in beta we don’t want to miss the opportunity to make things better overall. I hope you understand and really appreciate for your patience.
Is the loading issue’s being fixed soon?
Yes and no
We’ve already enabled Material Service for Client on PC/Mac, however they aren’t enabled yet for mobile/other platforms. This means if you play a game with MaterialService on unsupported platform, you might see some artifacts. Although we are in the process of rolling out to more platforms, MaterialService is still in beta. We will let you know when it’s fully ready to be used.
I’m not aware about loading issue but I might be missing something. Can you elaborate more regarding loading issue please? Thank you.
Sure! So when you enable 2022 material’s or make your own custom material’s, they sometimes do not load. Here’s one photo a person told me. I am jeromias halko on the photo.
Hi Anteraska, I’m trying to recreate your issue but can’t seem to achieve the effect you’re getting.
- In your scene is the pavement material applied to a part or terrain?
- Did you set Pavement to a specific RGB value or are you using the default?
- What RGB value did you set Pavement to?
- How are you lighting your scene?
It’s applied to a part, appearance properties here:
Lighting only has a bloom effect and a skybox, aside from that the properties are here:
The outline appears regardless of whether the part is in range of a light instance, you can see it here:
Also worth noting it’s the 2022 version but it does still happen on the classic materials, it’s just less obvious.
edit: setting the ambient lighting to 0,0,0 appears to fix it, so that seems to be the reason
Yes but that could be tricky, we don’t have any MaterialVariant that uses Roblox textures and we can’t just upload our own as I don’t have my own materials, the best would be an option to change the side color of the default materials as I said above
The 2022 grass texture looks repetitive and weird.
Despite this being in Beta, we’re going to attempt to release this to Jailbreak next weekend.
We just have one problem in testing! On newer mobile devices, the game is blindingly bright. But on older iPhones it is not.
Edit: Just learned the blinding brightness only applies to Graphics 7 and below on new devices. 8 and up appear to fix the issue.
iPhone 13 on iOS15.5:
iPhone 7 on iOS 15.6 Beta:
I don’t think it’s the Beta solving it, as somebody else in our team has the beta on his iPhone 13 and sees the same issue.
iPhone 13 on iOS15.5, with Graphics 8: Largely fixes the problem except for distant objects.
But wow on Desktop do these materials shine. Even better that we can replace materials with our own varieties like a custom beach sand you’ll see below. Thanks for rolling this out at least in a beta state!
If we can get brightness solved by next weekend, we are totally pushing forward!
Thank you for all the work going into this. We’re so incredibly excited it’s here.
Hang in there guys! Looks like you guys at roblox are getting a overwhelming amount of feedback requesting changes! Well I myself and a few other people i know are enjoying the new material tools, and I just want to pitch in a little encouragement to keep at it, your doing a great job, it gets better after every edit you make, you got this!
