Packages are basically just a model file + extra information about versioning, so packages containing MaterialVariants would work as long as the beta is turned on in the context where they’re being used.
That doesn’t, however, allow you to fine-tune them with as much ease. Sliders or unlocked values would make a great deal of difference in many situations, particularly here.
Have already been looking into this, not sure it’s possible to restore the original specular intensities but it’s definitely possible in some form to bring them back, albeit with a lot of stitching together of old files
Yes, as mentioned in Global UGC Materials, support for terrain material variants will be added early next year.
If old videos exist, they can be used to compare specular intensities, which could help.
I’m sure lots of pre-2013 roblox videos exist, but finding one in decent quality is going to be hard
Does this mean we will be able to add new materials separately from the existing materials?
You can still operate old versions of Roblox Studio from such time periods if you know what you’re doing (wouldn’t advise trying to open any modern places, won’t work, also wouldn’t advise building in them as the tools were terrible pre-RibbonBar) so it’s not entirely impossible. Remains to be seen if these settings will be unlocked though.
Just testing out the 2012 wood texture! Honestly, I can not wait until this update releases!
ME TOO! This would be so cool to see as an update.
TY. I’ve been wanting this for years
of course! if necessary, here is my Twitter. https://twitter.com/DanielM00512725 There’s a lot of interesting stuff 'bout that game
Is it possible to have materials that don’t overwrite others?
Finally a solution to preserving the old materials once they’re replaced with the new ones!
Thank you Roblox for this anyways, however the only problem I have about this that old games wont have their old look.
looks like we can finally ditch the scuffed Humanoid method
this is amazing, can’t wait for individual part customization
Wow! Good luck with that game. Just by looking at those pics, I’d think that’s a Source, UE5 or Unity game. Hopefully this update can improve it even more.
This update brings teardrops to my eyes, it’s so beautiful…
edit: i want to cry tears of happiness
Amazing update! It would be great if we were able to add new materials rather than only overriding existing materials however.
Yes, as mentioned in the roadmap, it will be delivered in two phases , i.e. upgrading the built-in material (with a switch so older places won’t change) and also material library expansion.
Thank you for the feedback, this has been noted.
This would be a great addition! Would love to see this implemented into SurfaceAppearance!
